I mean Jackson did a few movies but was actually known more as a RECORDING artist. So wouldn't the Grammy's take care of paying tribute to him?

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has explained why it chose not to include late actress Farrah Fawcett in their 'In Memoriam' segment at the Academy Awards.

Fawcett's former partner Ryan O'Neal and her children said that they were "deeply saddened" when she was not mentioned in the tribute despite singer Michael Jackson's inclusion.

Us Magazine quotes executive director Bruce Davis as saying that Fawcett was better known for her "remarkable television work" and suggested that she would be honoured instead at the Emmy Awards.

He said: "In every category, you're going to miss some wonderful people."

Fawcett's daughter recently said: "We are bereft with this exclusion of such an international icon who inspired so many for so many reasons. Beautiful, talented Farrah will never be forgotten by her family and amazing fans."

BTW Movies that Fawcett starred in that were released in the movie theaters:

I counted 12 movies including 2 movie award nominations (a Golden Globe for "Extremities" and an Independant Spirit Nomination for "The Apostle" - a movie that gave Robert Duvall an Academy nomination).

Movies that Michael Jackson starred in (and I'm not counting the cameo flashes in movies like "Men in Black 2" where they were basically spoofing on MJ) - ONE

And yes, much of MJ's music ended up in the music but he was not a composer for movies - his songs were just used.

1. It was a snub pure and simple. They had plenty of time for a
cheesy dance number and inane banter between the hosts. They could have mentioned Farrah if they'd wanted to. The Academy tries to be very highbrow and then brings out Ben Stiller with a blue face and a tail. Lots of mixed messages going out. Farrah was better known for tv, but she was in enough theatrical releases to warrant a mention. The Academy screwed up.

2. Honestly, I would have bought that reason if MJ wasn't in the tribute
They really shot themselves in the foot with that excuse.

What with his only acting in one movie and her having 10 or so legitimate theatrical movie roles.

Fawcett

Jackson

8. Farrah was nominated for 2 awards based on movies she's done (and no not Razzies)
"Extremities" was released in the theater and she received a Golden Globe nomination.

"The Apostle" was also released in the theaters and the received an Independant Spirit Nomination. This movie was directed by Robert Duvall and the movie itself received a slew of nominations from a variety of festivals including Best Actor Oscar nomination for Duvall. Fawcett received rave reviews for her role as Duvall's estranged wife.

MJ starred in ONE movie - "The Wiz" and outside the Wiz he has done nothing else in the Movies. I don't think he wrote any original songs for the movies (although alot of his songs were used) and most other movie appearances were the result of quick Cameos - like in "Men in Black 2" where he was spoofing himself as an alien (and had about 2 minutes screen time).

So if anything Farrah more than justified her reason to be in the tribute and MJ had absolutely no reason whatsoever to be in the tribute.

4. An oversight is not the same thing as a snub.
Jeez.

If this is all we have to bitch about, we're having a pretty good week.

7. Jackson's family has been doing its best to squeeze every possible dollar
out of his talent and energy all his life, and continues to do so after his death.

Farrah did not have such a powerful "lobby".

I am amazed Michael's father isn't selling locks of his hair online.
Maybe he is, and I just haven't seen it yet....

10. It's all about how much PR and clout you have going for you
The Jackson family is pretty agressive in that area.

12. Yes and unfortunately the O'Neil/Fawcett families are dealing with their own demons
since Ryan (ex-partner), Redmond (her son) and Tatum (Step daughter) are all embroiled in their own drug addictions and pretty much fell off the limelight with all their problems.

It's a shame because Ryan and Tatum both have a ton of talent but drug addiction got into their way.

11. Keeping a "tally" of names is such a simple, mundane task that it's probably delgated
and passed around, forgotten about, misplaced, re-delegated & hurriedly re-made (incompletely) at the last minute. That's how things work in offices -probably even at Academy HQ; "simple" stuff gets ignored, then afterwards, someone else gets delegated to explain or apologize.
