I don't care about celebrities. Period.
Edited on Wed Mar-10-10 11:29 AM by Symarip
And I'll never understand why anyone would care. Famous people have no bearing on my life, besides entertaining me (which is what they do for a living). Why does the fascination with the famous carry beyond what they're employed to do? I got news for anyone glued to Extra or Entertainment Tonight: celebrities sleep, eat, shit, and die just the same as the rest of us. Sure, some are noteworthy outside of their job field, like Paul Newman. But otherwise, why does anyone fucking care?

I don't care Farrah was snubbed during some Academy Awards memorial segment. Her being snubbed doesn't make her less dead. Nor does it solve the mysteries of time travel, fix the economy, put food on anyone's table, make my secretary stop arguing with her boyfriend on the company's time over the phone (like she's doing now), or, most importantly, bring an Oingo Boingo reunion to the masses.

In fact, I didn't watch the Oscars even though I saw a good portion of the nominated movies. I formed my own opinion on the effects each one had. I don't need a group of strangers to confirm to me which one is better than the other and who acted better than who. Therefore, the Oscar process is pretty useless. Trust me, James Cameron is doing alright despite his 'loss' (of which I only knew about because James Cameron not winning an Oscar is big fucking news). I'm sure he slept just fine last night, dreaming about weird looking blue people, waking up with morning wood (in 3-D!!!1eleventy11).

I don't care Corey Haim is dead. I was shocked to find he was still alive. And more shocked, still, I recognized his name. Who was he besides an actor with a drug addiction? If you omit the fact he was an actor, he'd be no different than the other millions in the grasps of drug addiction. What makes him so fucking special? Because he was in License to Drive?

Did you see that movie?

IT WAS FUCKING AWESOME.

Y'know, I spent a lot of time in Hollywood for various reasons. I'm telling you, the only thing famous people are interested in is your money and their fame. Entertainment is important in all it's facets, but I refuse to invest huge chunks of emotional stock in people who don't reciprocate the same in me.

Would Corey Haim care about you if it were you who died and he were still alive? Probably not.

Seriously. Buying tickets today. The show coincides with a trip I already had planned.

Dammers is back on keys, I heard. That's amazing.

3. do you care about human nature?
Edited on Wed Mar-10-10 11:54 AM by pitohui
talking about celebrities is how we talk about human nature without hurting somebody else

in the old days, "gossip" was talking about other people in our village and spreading rumors about people we actually knew -- which is INFINITELY more destructive

ex -- when i talk abt tiger i can talk about infidelity, abuse, the different treatment of rich and poor in the same situation WITHOUT talking abt some married guy i actually know and possibly hurting his kids, another example -- when i talk abt michael vicks, i can talk abt animal abuse, redemption, different treatment of black and white cons, and so on -- that's just two examples

it's important for people to exchange ideas abt human nature and our ideas about morality, but gossiping about "real" people is hurtful and destructive

gossiping about celebrities DOESN'T hurt the celeb, indeed the celeb often profits from the attention, and it allows us to exchange ideas/concepts abt human nature freely w. ea. other

i don't know who corey haim is or if he cares if i live or die, but it ain't abt him, not really

7. No offense, but you're fucking crazy
I don't give a shit what my neighbor is up to in the village, either. I don't know if it's human nature to give a shit nor do I care. What other people do is their business as long as it doesn't interfere with my livelihood and pursuit of happiness.

I find it disturbing you can't you talk about animal abuse, redemption, racism, etc. without referring to celebrities. I agree it's important to exchange ideas. We need to see, read, and hear other people's points of view in order to formulate better opinions. But why do we need paid entertainers to be the catalyst? That's ridiculous. That's like saying Puffy Combs needs to get paid less than Brittany Spears in order to talk openly about racism (celebrities used in example are random).

I would also assume entertainers in the industry are hurt by gossip, whether you want to believe that or not. I'm fairly certain it has ruined some people's lives. And that's pretty fucking sad.

I heard a piece of an interview done with Haim about 3 weeks ago, and he said he was working on all of these new things, and License to Fly was one of them. I guess we'll never know now.

12. I find lives interesting. I never tire of reading about Churchill or any Roosevelts., BUT
I don't worship them. I try to learn from them.

I find the Cult of the Personality blinds people. I guess I got that from studying Soviet politics and living in DC. I see it here a LOT.

I have not seen Haim's film but would very much like to do so.

13. some righteous jules there
you forgot this part:

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

I got yer back.

23. I agree. and the only famous people worth caring about are never in the news.
Mainly because they are good decent people.

You never hear about Tom Hanks unless it is about a film he has done which is when we should hear about celebrities.
Like Hanks you never hear about Johnny Depp. Real actors like real musicians do it for the love of the art not the fame.

Seriously. I mean, most people can actually feel something for a person even if that person doesn't give them something back in turn. I honor and respect your ability to say "Fuck anyone who doesn't do for me." It's truly an inspiration to all of us. Truly. I'm trembling.
