Saying something is overrated is not the same as saying you hate it - it's more about expressing confusion about why something is so popular, given that you don't see the intense appeal. I think Twitter is insanely overrated - I just DO NOT see what's so special about posting a ton of 140 character blurbs repeatedly. I don't think someone's stupid for liking it, I just don't get it, and I don't get why it's become this giant pop-culture thing (OMG LET ME FOLLOW YOU ON TWITTER TEE HEE!!!!!!111ELEVENS)

I have a way different list of bands I think are 'overrated' versus bands I actively dislike. I think The Who are overrated as hell, but I don't think they're "bad." I just don't think they're as good as pop culture writ large seems to think they are. I think "I hate this" threads are petty for the most part - if you hate something, why the need to trumpet it, especially if you know other people like it?

Someone posts that they like someone or something. A few people agree, a few people are curious. Invariably some A-1, world-class asshole shows up and throws shit all over the thread like some hyperactive howler monkey.

Here's a tip. If people are talking about something they enjoy, and it's something you dislike, stay away. Let people have their fun.
