Wanna Rolling Stones album? One that pretty much is their carreer in a nutshell - its EOMS

Pure sloppy blues, pure angst, pure NYC Heroin Shooting, Coke Snorting, Pot Smoking, Tranny Fucking Music. And its beautiful.

Beautiful in the way that Velvet Underground and Nico are.

Beautiful in the way that Kate Moss is, despite EVERYTHING.

Beautiful in the way Nirvana's melodies were.

THAT kind of beautiful - damaged beautiful.

1. Wiki says a new version with 10 new songs coming soon.
A new version of the album will be released in the United States on May 18, 2010, featuring 10 new tracks, including “Plundered My Soul,” “Dancing in the Light,” “Following the River” and “Pass the Wine,” as well as alternate versions of “Soul Survivor” and “Loving Cup.”<3>

My favorite album of all time. The Robert Frank photos were great also.

2. I prefer Sticky Fingers
It's a close call for sure, but Sticky is just more consistent.

There are a couple of songs on Exile that I totally check out for.

3. A great album, I don't think there is a bad or even average song on it...
I'm very happy they seem to have done such a good job restoring and saving the tapes to digital. Can't wait to hear it.

5. Rock and roll shouldn't be pretty, in my opinion
It shouldn't overly smooth, over produced. Autotune fans can leave right now. It should be raw and wild and a dangerous. But most importantly, it should be real. The Nirvana comparison is apt because the Stones, and this album in particular, had a grungy, garage band character.

9. Well, that would rule out a lot
"Pretty" does not have to mean overproduced glop.

Look at REM's album Fables of the Reconstruction, or Translator's self-titled record, or anything the Byrds ever sang. These are all examples of gorgeous pop songwriting that manages to maintain a quriky, slightly off-kilter sensibility.

Or look at power-pop overlords Cheap Trick.

What about a song like "Ceremony", the last Joy Division/first New Order song?

17. I probably could have used a better adjective
But if you're against 'overproduced glop' that's good enough for me. For me, I guess it boils down to the distinction between rock and pop.

But I really, really hate Auto-Tune. With a passion.

11. For me, raw feedback can be beautiful
It's that tonality/atonal balance or lack thereof that makes music beautiful in my opinion

I like the Carpenters, but I also like Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music

6. Phish played it and it melted my face.....
Incredible night of music. It is the best album ever IMO. Exile has everything. raunch, class, sex, drugs, sentimentality, jamming etc....

Phish video from festival 8. Incredible multi camera uncut. With perfect sound etc. Not the finished product but it is off the rails. With Sharon Jones and a horn section. the best thing about this is the songs you think are gonna kick ass are not the ones that really do.... big surprises.

12. Thanks for the link
I love Phish, but for me the only musical costume I liked was when they covered Remain in Light.

7. All that...
And a song called "Turd On The Run", which is one of the best titles any band has ever conjured.

Yeah, the whole thing is a stone-cold classic from first to last.

8. I missed out on "Exile" when it first came out.
But, my brother had a copy of "Some Girls" that I stole.

Maybe that's why I'm partial to it.

15. They do not make the classics like that with today's commericial pop rock
I can't imagine any of this massed produced schlock being that memorable 30-40 years from now. Disney will have fresh faces to replace the Jonas Bros and Miley Cyruses of the world (who replaced the Brittney Spears & Backstreet Boys, etc. etc. etc.)

It's crap taht doesn't last.

16. It's timeless
Blues, gospel, rock, folk a whole range of music and a whole range of emotions. There's so much to listen to. I re-discover new pieces of it all the time.

19. It shouldn't have been any good
The Stones, or at least Jagger and Richards, had to have been drunk out of their heads when they recorded it. The songs almost SMELL of alcohol. Yet the more they WERE out of it, the better they sounded.

youtube has "Cocksucker Blues" serialized. i think DA Pennebaker shot it during the exile on main street tour, raw footage, containing scenes of heroin injections or sex with groupies on airplanes right in front of anybody.

the rolling stones sought an injunction against the film maker because the footage was deemed damaging and unsuitable for distribution.

21. Mostly because of "Rocks Off", "Sweet Virginia", "Ventilator Blues" and "All Down the Line".
It is a great, great album. Sticky Fingers will always be my favorite but Exile kicks ass.
