So, I was going to my psychotherapist appointment today... |
|
...and I walking into the lobby. Guess who I run into? My friend with Cerebral Palsy! I knew she had starting going to the same place I go to for therapy for her PTSD, but I didn't expect to run into to her there, with her appointment at the same time as mine! :wow:

1. when was your friend dx'd with PTSD? |
|
I have that same thing - tho to me it makes more sense to call it c-ptsd, but that's not in the manual yet...but there are reasons for either dx.
do you know what she's doing for treatment?
I talked to a mom of a kid who's been dx'd with PTSD after coming home from Iraq and his doc's approach is different than what's been going on with me.
...I am seeing hypnotoad!

4. do you know what sort of treatment she's receiving? |
|
as in various ways of treating things... cog/behav, desensitization, interpersonal...
one of the most useful things about a therapist in a situation where someone was traumatized is the therapist validates that person.
and I wanted to cry when the doctor said... well, of course x and y...and of course there are reasons for situational depression because of z.
I'm sorry to hear that your friend was raped. I hope she finds a way to deal with and let go as much as possible.

my son is an aspie and his big thing, since he was about 6 has been baseball. He has a lot of other interests, but when he was a kid, that was one that inspired him to learn all the old players and stats, etc.
Now he's like my live action IMDB. :)
anyway, the interesting thing to me is that my son is very affectionate and loving. he's not anti-social at all - but he does want his time to himself and he doesn't always get the social signals even tho he likes to be with people.
unlike most preconceptions about autistic people - he is, unfortunately for him, a math moron like me - spatially challenged, a language-based person rather than number-based, if that makes sense.
nothing like Temple Grandin, iow.
