I could have had a fish, but noooooo, we had to get a cat.

1. My dear NYC_SKP!
That cat looks like it could be out hunting!

It must weigh nearly 30 pounds, for crissakes!

:scared:

Who's the pretty lady?

:hi:

2. That's no lady...
That's the woman who's going to adopt the cat.

j/k

Someone emailed that pic to seaker, she emailed it to me.

I fibbed.

Now I have a mini saltwater tank, with coral and cute fish!

Only a six gallon tank! There's an emerald crab, a cleaner shrimp, two blue wrasse, a clownfish, a dottyback, and six species of coral!

Oh, and a Hawaiian Feather Duster!

3. OK...so the lady is not seaker?
I am confused. The hour is semi-late and I've been posting on and off all day in my HUGE GD thread...

Anyway, your aquarium is gorgeous!

That's a salt water one? It's really beautiful...

If I had one, it would be full of algae and dead fish...

:P

4. I shall have to find this thread of which you speak.
There is no algae to speak of.

The snails go about the glass and the water is as clear as the finest vodka.

There are a few hermit crabs in there, too.

All in all, once set up correctly, I find this requires less care than freshwater tanks with goldfish.

Combining all the right organisms creates a pretty self sustaining ecosystem.

I was surprised by how little work it was (after all the work getting it right).

17. nice!
only 6 gallons?!!! Back in my aquarium day that would be impossible. No salts smaller than a 20, and that wouldn't have had much life in it. Amazing!

6. I was just telling someone about that picture the other day- nice to see it again!
Edited on Fri Mar-12-10 03:01 AM by Richard Steele
In case anyone is wondering- That's a REAL photograph.
That cat and his owner have been very well-documented.

He's the world's largest known "Maine Coon" cat, he weighs
almost 40 pounds...
And his owner there in the pic is a very petite lady.
IIRC, she's less than 5 feet tall.

Big fluffy cat + small petite woman = dramatic photograph.

Can it walk or does it have to be carried?

But soooo sweet!

On edit: No suggestions. Sorry....

25. Yup. You it would be dangerous to breed a cat that big if it didn't come with a sweet disposition.

10. This cat is freakin' ENORMOUS!!
No wonder he eats you out of house and home. Question is, is he a Maine Coon? He makes my cat Max look puny by comparison.

18. Is Max resting in his litter box?
Edited on Fri Mar-12-10 12:27 PM by Heidi
What a beautiful boy! And he doesn't look overly hefty to me. :)

The Wiley and Excellent Boy Cat Named Ginger isn't a litter box kinda guy; at home, he prefers the "great outdoors." But when he goes up to visit my mother-in-law, he LOVES to go in her bathroom and check out her three cats' litter box -- and kick litter all over the bathroom floor. My mother-in-law never chides him. She tells me, "Well, there are things a boy can do at his grandmother's place that he can't do at HOME."

ETA: Could YOU look into this sweet face and tell him he shouldn't be messin' up "Nonna's bathroom"? :(

12. and I thought my Cosmo was big
Cosmo tips the scale at 23 lbs.

When he sits in your lap, your lap disappears.

That cat, is bigger than Cosmo. Fluffier too.

And beautiful.

My Maine Coon looks like a miniature of that one, and is just as big of a mush-pot.

He reminds me a little of my Loki. But Loki's only 20 pounds, and a Norwegian Forest Cat. Lotsa fur though.

Beautiful boy!

24. Just tried holding my Maine Coon like that...
The lacerations! Ouch.

Mine's a brown/black and white version of your gorgeous puss, but not nearly as malleable.

Only ever goes dopey on me after he's been out huntin and killin in the backyard.

No logic to it.
