DO you believe only kids get Head Lice infestations? |
|
Kids sometimes get lice from close contact from other kids as in sleepovers, but if only close contact caused lice to flourish, then every married couple or couple in general would have it. WHAT Do kids DO that cause it to become an infestation? If you say sharing brushes, etc., so do some married couples...there must be some OTHER factor that occurs, right? PICK YOUR BRAIN...and while you're at it-you best look for nits!!! ..You nitwits!!!

1. Teens, adults--and even cats and dogs--can get head lice |
|
Lice simply look for a warm meal and lay their eggs on human head hair. Cats and dogs can be bitten by head lice, but I don't know if lice lay nits in your pets.

I work in a law enforcement/prosecution/criminal justice capacity, and we had an outbreak of lice in our jail that affected about 100 people. Since there are only 400 inmates, that's a substantial amount.
We also had a TB outbreak (there are a lot of unvaxed illegals from Mexico in the jail) - that quarantine was scary because we couldn't move any inmates in or out until all the cases were isolated.

5. Our entire family has had head lice. |
|
When the kids were very little, they brought them home from school, most likely picked up from sharing or being in close proximity to other's naptime blankets. We often had family evening snuggle times (mom and dad and both kids) in our bed in the evening. Voila! Head lice for all. It happened just once. And the little ickies are easily removed with a special shampoo. Still, there's nothing to beat the feeling of spotting blurry little moving things on your 4-year-old's scalp. And realizing you've got em too.

7. What kind of shampoo did you use? |
|
I would say not so easy. There's an oil type free of pesticides that takes several doses to eradicate them. It's hard to completely wash out of the hair at first. But it contains an oil that that destroys the nits tummies, so they starve to death.

9. I'm sorry, I can't remember the name. I don't remember it's being oily, though. |

It's been over 25 years! But the shampoo was easily available at the drug store, and we all only had to use it once. It worked very well, but it did screw up my hair color. (I was a fake blonde in those days.)

11. Oh, well, if it was that long ago, it had to be one of those pesticide |

shampoos that have proven to be quite dangerous. I'm glad it worked for you, but the main one you are talking about has been known to be a dangerous toxin and has brought on asthma, etc. Maybe it wasn't the same.

While they were head lice, they didn't take up residence on my head, unfortunately.

16. Don't waste money on the special shampoo. |
|
A lot of the little buggers are apparently resistant to the drug in it now. Yay, evolution.
Anyhow, cover the effected head with campho-phenique suspended in oil or hair conditioner, then put a shower cap on. If at all possible, sleep with that on, otherwise leave it for at least an hour. Then shampoo out, and blow dry the hair until it's completely dry. To prevent any eggs that might survive from hatching keep the blow drying up for a week or two, even if it's not your normal routine.
My baby sister couldn't seem to stop sharing clothing articles with the kids at school, and this was the only thing that would get rid of her head lice when they'd inevitably pop up.

17. Kids go to school with other kids that have lice, then bring 'em home. |
|
That's how I got 'em in my late 20's. And a couple few folks got 'em from me before I got on the ball. (I didn't live all that clean back then.)
