Woman, 92, charged with murdering her husband, 98
Love is never having to say you're sorry for beating your husband to death.

An elderly Australian woman could spend the rest of her golden years behind bars -- for killing her even older husband.

The 92-year-old woman was charged in the murder of her 98-year-old husband after he was found dead in their Australia home on Friday.

Police discovered his lifeless body with head injuries in the living room after concerned relatives contacted them, according to The Sydney Morning Herald.

Clara Tang was arrested at the scene and her husband's body was taken for an autopsy to "formally establish how he died," police said.

1. this is really sad - from the article Mrs. Tang has severe dementia
and folks who suffer from alzheimers/severe dementia can become very nervous and present a danger to themselves or others if scared.

she may have just killed him in such a state. they may have been sweethearts all their lives and a horrible brain disease can ruin it all.

20. They had to take my grandfather out of the home because he was getting to be too much for my
nana to handle. He could get quite angry and rough with her.

8. I guess when you hit 98 you think you will just die from old age.

Damn.

I wonder how sane the wife is. She is 92. I am conflicted about her going to jail for this. Anyone who murders someone should go to jail. Period. BUT, I can't help but wonder what state of mind she lives in.

17. Dementia is so horrible
but sever dementia is nothing for people to be laughing and joking about. Those who do haven't seen or dealt with it or they wouldn't be thinking this is funny in any way.

23. I agree that it is a horrible disease.
My mother suffers from dementia, but there comes a time when you have to be able to keep your sense of humor about things. The delusions she suffers makes for some bizarre situations. My Dad and us have learned that not being able to see a lighter side of the disease is almost as bad as the disease.

25. It's really one thing
for someone trying to do what you are doing, keep your sense of humor amidst the whole thing. And I admire you if you can do it and for very long. After a while, there isn't a whole lot of the lighter side to it.

It's entirely another for people who have no idea what it all means and entails to live with dementia to crack jokes at it, especially given the horror of the article in the OP. I agree with Deep13 who said that hopefully she doesn't realize what she's done.

For you and your family.

26. to be fair, the jokes were mostly about long term marriage gripes, not the dementia
I confess my first thought was something similar when I saw the headline, but the dementia took the dark funny right out.

21. If she had dementia, there's a good chance she didn't even recognize her husband.
It's not exactly unheard of for people with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia, to feel threatened and freak out at someone who, to their diseased brain, is a complete stranger.

When my dad was sick with dementia, he refused to take his various medications and thought my mom was trying to poison him. He was also extremely angry at her for not letting him drive the car. There were several instances when the TV was on, and he was unable to separate whatever was happening onscreen from reality. Once, while watching a cowboy movie, he went into a panic thinking the house was in flames and under attack by hatchet-wielding "Indians."

Yet, he could still come up with most of the answers when Jeopardy was on.

If not for the neuropathy in his legs, which made it impossible for him to stand or walk, mom wouldn't have been able to keep him home to take care of him. It would have been impossibly dangerous, for both of them.
