Worst show I watch this weekend - about Pageants for little girls
seriously - what mother would subject her daughter to such torture. These mothers will pay $30k+ a year to have their daughters compete in shows where maybe they'd make a few hundred dollars tops in prize.

And then these girls are ladled with enough makeup to rival a cheap hooker, enough aquanet to kill the ozone and fake teeth because I guess baby teeth on a child isn't cute enough.

1. Hate those shows!
Toddlers and Tiaras and Little Miss Perfect. There's an ad for Little Miss Perfect running now that has a line in it "whatever you call it....", well, actually I call it child porn. 6 year olds in bikinis, fake hair, teeth, tans...
Yuck!

2. Toddlers and Tiaras is what I watched
Why would any mother force this lifestyle on their kids is beyond me. And why do the husbands not have enough balls to make the stop is beyond me.

3. Why would you watch that?
Sometimes, you just have to walk away.

18. Welcome to the world of Bad Girls Club Syndrome

Just what the world needs - drunken brawls, psychological warfare, and a hefty dose of "I run LA" on top. What's wrong with us?

4. They are horrible!
What are those parents teaching those little girls? If you don't win, you're not "perfect" and therefore you aren't worthy? It's disgusting.

I saw that episode with the false teeth! Even the judges commented negatively on them!

6. Perfect description!
I watched an episode of "Little Miss Perfect" and was just as horrified about it - same type of show and they seem to focus on 'competition' between 2 of the girls in their show description.

Having lived through the whole JonBenet thing, I am totally repulsed by this pageant stuff for kids - I think it's sick and really a substitute for the Moms who have a whole ton of their own shortcomings.

Can't a kid just be a kid these days?

That's my annual salary. I guess some people have more money then they do sense. I've seen that ridiculous crap, it's revolting.

I've got a little girl that could smoke all of them without even trying, and you know what she's doing today? Digging in the dirt, swinging on her swingset, and splashing in mud puddles and generally just being a kid. My god I'd never deprive her of that.....

9. the parents seem to look the opposite
Why is it that these parents don't look like anything these kiddies do? They wouldn't win a pageant themselves in a million years. Why do they insist the kids look perfect themselves?

14. Usually it's the mom that looks like some sort of sad soul. The dad's just seem clueless
I honestly think there is some sort of mental illness involved with these women that they would subject their daughters to such torture. I mean the moms SWEAR it's what their daughters want. But hell, some of these kids are like 3 years old - they don't know what they want other than to make mommy happy and spend time with her.

And everytime they show the dads they look like the most hapless, clueless person in the world. If these men had a set of balls they'd put an end to this. Those thousands of dollars being spent could be put away for a college fund - you want to make your daughter feel good about herself - give her a good education!

11. The most humorous justification for doing this...
"We're doing it so she can win a scholarship."

So let me see...it costs $30k-plus to seriously work the pageant circuit. If you do pageants for two years before the child enters school, then keep her doing pageants until she graduates from high school (it's possible), you would have spent $420,000 in HOPES of getting your kid a scholarship. OTOH, if you take the same money and put it into Certificates of Deposit, you can pay cash to any school in America. Your daughter wants to go to Harvard, MIT, Caltech? No problem--where's your checkbook?

If you're also looking to give her the "fun" of getting all dressed up and dolled up, take $100 to Goodwill for lots of playtime clothes--I'm certain quite a few slightly distressed pageant gowns wind up there. Thirty or forty bucks will get you one of those "every shade in the world" makeup kits, and $15 will get you a perfectly good microphone at Radio Shack. Then she can go down in the basement with her friends, get all dressed up and have pageants all day long, while her college money sits there in a nice safe community bank earning interest.

17. Years ago there was a thing on 60 minutes about The Travelers.
They showed a "dance" where the girls were introduced to the society (kinda like a debutante thing) except the girls were 8 or 9 years old and they were dressed in streetwalker type clothing. The parents were standing on the sidelines screaming--encouraging them to dance like a stripper. The story said they arrange marriage for the girls at that age, and their bride payment goes higher when they dance "like a woman."

I remember being grossed out at the time (and still am) but it really bothers me to see those kiddie pageant/porn things now because all I can think about is some little girl being sold off to some dirty pedophile.

21. Yeah we still do that - like when Miley Cyrus worked the stripper pole at a Kids Award Show
And her younger sister dressed like something borderline a hooker for some kid's halloween event.

...do so, by all means. It puts child beauty pageants in their place with a little help from Abigail Breslin, Steve Carrell, Greg Kinnear, etc.

20. I loved that movie - Alan Arkin was amazing
Edited on Tue Mar-16-10 02:29 PM by LynneSin
and I was so glad he got the Oscar over Eddie Murphy. Arkin has spent a lifetime making great movies; whereas, Murphy just lucked out getting one decent role over dozens of really crappy inexcusible excuses of movies he has made. Didn't he win a lifetime achievement award from the Razzies?

24. I loved that movie
As the kid was sitting there in front of the mirror, I was thinking "What possible talent would that delightfully oddball Grandpa have taught her?" and then I went "Oh...my...gawd." My family said "What?" and then I said "Wait for it."

22. I must be dyslexic. At first glance, I thought the subject line said "Penguins for little girls"
And immediately I thought that making shows about penguins for little girls to watch would be an awesome show. Kids love penguins.
