Dear DU

I got a pm from a fellow DUer that reminded me that I should check in and let people know how things are going for me. I haven't been around here much lately. Since Markus' death I've had to deal with so much paperwork, all in German, that I have filled two large folders. Some of that paperwork was for the Ausländeramt (foreigner's office) pertaining to my sister Jill staying here for an extended amount of time.

Thanks to the donations from my fellow DUers, we were able to purchase a health insurance policy for Jill and prove to the German government that she has enough money to support herself while she is here. Last week she was given a 6 month extension and she will be staying here with me until September. She can reapply for another 6 month extension after that if I still need her here. THANK YOU DU! I don't know what I would have done without my sister here. She is taking care of basically all the shopping, cooking and cleaning, all of which I cannot do.

I am still dealing with my injuries which are more extensive than originally thought. I'm having an MRI on my lower back to determine if I have a herniated disk or a ruptured disk and what to do from there. My left arm is still pretty much useless and the pain is excruciating. I never understood how people took solace in the saying "one day at a time" until now. It works.

A new Jack Russell Terrorist puppy fell into my life by chance. My physiotherapist had gotten her as a companion for his older Jack Russell but she turned out to be too dominant and naughty for them to handle...compared to Piglet, she is a piece of cake for me and she is helping me cope emotionally too. I named her Vino because the first night I had her she jumped up on the table and started drinking my glass of wine. After being chastised for giving her a male name I changed it to Vina. Here is a picture of my two helpers, Jill and Vina.



Sorry this is so long. I just wanted to check in and let those of you who care know how things are and I wanted to thank you all again for all the help and support you've given to me and Jill. Thank you DUers!

I am so glad that the Ausländeramt decided to let Jill stay. I know she is as great an emotional support as a helping hand. (was that grammatically correct?)
