Some funny odds for this years NCAA tournament
Danny Sheridan has been an oddsmaker for quite some time...For this years tournament starting Thursday, he came up odds for all the teams...Some teams apparently are such long shots that he must have consulted some Stanford or MIT math wiz to come up w/these numbers...I'm not making any of these up, it was in yesterdays USA Today special NCAA section....Here are a couple odds:

Robert Morris - 2 trillion to 1

UC Santa Barbara - 1 OCTillion to 1

East Tennessee State - 1 googolplex to 1

Vermont - 5 googolplex to 1

Lehigh - 10 googolplex to 1

What is a googolplex?...LOL

With regards to teams that have a real chance:

Kansas - 3:1
Kentucky - 4:1
Syracuse - 6:1

1. I think a googolplex is a 1 followed by one hundred zeroes.
Something like this:

10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000

I don't think Lehigh has much of a chance at all with those odds!

2. That's funny... those are interesting but for real stats
I go to Ken Pomeroy or the Sagarin ratings. I think their statistical models provide a very good window into the teams and how they could actually perform in the tournament.

Sagarin has Kansas #1, Duke #2, Kentucky #3, Syracuse #4 and so on.

Pomeroy has Duke, Kansas, Wisconsin, and Ohio State ranked 1 through 4 in that order.

3. The special section USA Today has before the tournament
is a big help when filling out those brackets, as i know NOTHING about college basketball....The have a summary of all 64 teams, listing strengths, quality teams they defeated, etc...

Let's see if a 12 seed beats a 5 seed again this year...That almost always happens....

9. hilarious! I've seen Vermont play my Pitt Panthers - they pretty much blew
them away during the non-conf. season last year. googleplex! that is, well, an awful lot.

Robert Morris is pretty good though, for that conference...

10. UVM isn't a bad team
I can see them giving Syracuse (a team that doesn't always show up in big games) a fit.
