OMC - The new Star Trek movie was total fucking shit, but watching it now on BluRay |
|
in the confines of my home, and without the spectacle and sound of the theater, I'm surprised at how utterly and truly awful this film is on every level - script, acting, dialogue, directing, editing - it's just fucking awful.
I'm about halfway through right now, and even some of the subliterate shit that I thought was at least sort of entertaining when I saw it at the movie theater is offering itself as the cliche-ridden drek that it is.
I mean, holy fuck. I posted some seriously negative reviews here of this abomination, but damn - even in those reviews, I have to admit, I never fully realized the depths of self-loathing that the director should be legally mandated by an act of Congress to succumb.
Every second is excruciating.

are tired of the Franchise yet? If a Deep Space Nine or Voyager movie came out, would anyone go? I saw on TWITTER that even Brent Spiner, was happy to move on. Asked what was his favorite part of Star Trek: Nemesis and his reply was "The closing credits"

My wife and I loved it. The only abominations I noted were scientific.
I found this flick an excellent meshing of internal and external character conflict. The best part is, they left out all the stodgy suckage that polluted even the best of the previous movies.

5. Remarkable how ... no matter how dire the situation appears ... |
|
it can be solved in an hour with a bunch of nonsensical gobbledigook (i.e.: "Captain, I think we can solve (this episode's current engineering dire situation) if I crawl up the Jeffries tube and rearrange the plasma pulse width modulators to rebalance the dilithium crystals vibrational frequencies which will reversely polarize the matter/antimatter reactions thus phase shifting the Enterprise into a temporary rift in subspace where we can then scan the ship with beritold rays and destroy the entity infecting the crews' reproductive organs.

6. It was better then I expected |

I expected to hate the movie and ended up thinking it was decent. Certainly the movie has flaws, such as I thought they cast a little too young, but they managed not to destroy the franchise (which was on its last legs anyway) and I'm even mildly curious to see what they do in the next one.
On edit: It was better then most of the Next Generation movies and Star Trek: Nemesis was truly awful.

I thought the latest Star Trek was pretty lame so odds are I won't sit through it again.

I think the people that really hated it are mostly just suffering from unfulfilled high expectations.

last year, yet you still went out & bought the blu-ray?
I thought much of the cast was excellent and well-cast, but didn't like the ending.

12. I agree. I hated the movie |

I couldn't believe the way the script strayed from Roddenberry's themes. It was sacrilege as far as I am concerned. Very little plot content and too many special effects.

And ILM had to work around them, and in some instances, add their own.
