1. No
Polling and sociological research has shown that Irish-Americans are generally the most progressive white gentile demographic. We vote Dem in higher numbers, too.

On immigration, part of the equation is the fact that there have been several waves of Irish immigration, with the most recent one in the 1990s. Coming from the old country is less of a hypothetical matter than it is with some other groups.

Also, listen closely the next time you see an international relief organization on the news. Odds are you'll hear an irish brogue. The Irish are very involved in international relief and peacekeeping work. Since Ireland was essentially a shat-upon 3rd world colony less than a hundred years ago, they have more cred with the developing world than most European nations.

2. I've never even seen anything like that
The St. Patrick's Day parade is a big deal in San Francisco, a city with more Irish heritage than most.

But the Cinco De Mayo parade is also a big deal and can't ever think of people acting that way.

4. Check this out:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_U.S._cities_with_large_Irish_American_populations

This doesn't surprise me at all, since I've always said I live in a mish-mosh of Little Ireland and Little Italy. :P

6. It's not Cinco De Mayo.
It's the Canada Day celebrations, which result in certain DUers (who shall go unnamed) casting asparagus at St. Geddy of Toronto.

7. Cannot believe the mods haven't deleted this post
declaring war on St. Geddy should be a banning offense.

11. People in this city SF don't
Edited on Wed Mar-17-10 01:19 PM by AsahinaKimi
stomp on anyone else's culture. The only people who do crap like that, are visitors from out of town. People in this city appreciate the diversity that is here. This town would be boring, if it were all one group of people living here.

9. Why would you assume that?
I come from a hugely Irish part of the country and have never heard anything like that. If anything, it's another excuse for a celebration.......
