Wow... Even the "homeless, out of work hungry" rejects my offer of food
There is a one way boulevard that I drive daily where periodically someone holds their sign soliciting help at the intersection. Now, I can't help all the time and like most, it is uncomfortable sitting in my car at the light, ignoring them feet from my car. But late yesterday a woman with the sign above sort of got me...

Now, I rarely have cash on me, so I was looking in the car to see if I had any change or anything to give her when I spotted the box of Girl Scout cookies (Peanut Butter Do-Si-Dos). So, I opened my window and held the box up to offer. She immediately got a snarling scowl on her face and shook her head "no," rejecting my offer, with considerable contempt apparent.

Ok, it wasn't a big wad of cash, nor (granted), the most healthy food, but hey, if she was hungry, I thought she'd accept it.

So, sorry my little Girl Scout friends... Even the "homeless, out of work, hungry" won't eat your cookies! This makes me really wonder what is wrong with me if I eat them....!

just needed to get that off my chest... LOL

1. Even the homeless hate Do Si Dos.
You should have offered Thin Mints.

3. All jokes aside... was I being inappropriate to offer her those cookies?

5. I don't think it was inappropriate at all. You offered what you had with you.
Her reaction makes me wonder if getting something to eat is really her motive for being out there.

8. Nope, you did what you felt was the right thing to do
She reacted in her way. You never know the details as to why unless you ask.

I never have given straight money to anyone asking because I'm usually poor (well, except youngn's in Tijuana). I've had countless burgers turned down, thrown in street, etc.

Generally, if I give up one of MY beers it is accepted.

Different strokes.

4. Her reaction may have been rude but she might've had good reason to turn them down.
I once saw a homeless man get lectured by a woman after he politely declined her offer to by him something from Dunkin Donuts because he was diabetic. He had previously asked me to buy him fruit and told me he was diabetic so I have no reason to believe he was lying.

There are plenty of other reasons she might not have been able to eat them. Trying to bake for my family can be a nightmare because I've got relatives that are vegetarian, allergic to strawberries, chocolate, and can't eat anything with nuts or seeds.

6. Yes... that is certainly possible
I just thought she might have accepted them and perhaps trade them out, if that were the case

7. Her reaction was rude, period.
It sounds to me like she didn't want food offered.
