i must admit my secret shame: i am a bully toward my direct reports |
|
i always let them know that this is a tough business and only the strong survive.
a very wise man once said, "IT'S FUCK OR WALK."
plus sometimes i yell at them.

plus, i learned from the best. fucking guys who were around when vaudeville houses still operated on broadway. three fisted drinkers, vodka for breakfast types.
only jesus christ was a better salesman than these guys.
they were churning and burning back when it was considered rude to NOT offer a cigarette to your guest. shit, they even had ashtrays in elevators, so they tell me.

and the funny thing is that if you maintain the high level of engagement, reinforcement, emphasis, elocution, professionalism (toward clients), raw talent, and desire throughout all of your activities, you'd soon learn the meaning of the power of your own being.
so it's always best to emulate those you admire. always surround yourself with equals or better and delegate to everyone else.

Assuming you are being sarcastic, I know a lot of people who could have benefited from the oversight of someone like you--a bit more balanced.

it's always good to be generous. buy some pizza for the drivers and warehousemen, get the office girls lunch here and there, buy flowers for their birthdays and they take care of you. it really makes life much easier, easier to focus. but the whippersnappers who are supposed to become earners FAST need to be beat up a little bit, the clients and prospects can give them 10 times worse, so the process thins the herd when non-hackers fall here and there.
