3. From what I can tell the cool kids at my highschool went on to scapegoat the scapegoat well past
the age when it is quasi acceptable to do so.

the "kool kids" peaked far too early and are now working for the nerds, outcasts, AV-nerds and debate club kids, life as it turns out, is sometimes fair :P

6. No.
I don't give them a second thought.

Life is too short to be thinking about people who don't matter to me.

The "non-cool" kids left. I visit sometimes.

Either it never mattered very much or the 70's were just so long ago that I've forgotten.

At least about most of them.

All I can say is, it sucks to peak in high school.

14. Went back to my hometown of 50,000 people...
.
...almost 10 years after having left -- having lived in Kentucky,
Texas, Germany and Tennessee. Had nothing at all in common with
my buddies who had stayed (and would probably ALWAYS stay), so I
made a whole new circle of friends in the two years I was there
(EXCEPTIONAL place for a kid to grow up -- bored me to fucking
tears as an adult). I soon realized that all my new friends had
either been raised there and had gone somewhere else for long
periods of time -- or had moved there as adults from somewhere
else.
.
Cool kids? Didn't run into too many. Courtney, across the street,
blonde captain of the cheerleading squad hot goddess Courtney. She
had always been nice, but very aloof. Meeting her again, we got
along so well that I think if I hadn't been involved with someone
else, we would have at least tried dating. Didn't seem to know
what she wanted to do yet, but seemed relatively happy.
.
Tim, Student Body President and class valedictorian, voted most
likely to succeed, burned out and had a nervous breakdown in his
sophomore year of college. Working as an assistant mgr of a
produce department at one of the big supermarkets in the area.
Nice guy in high school... nice guy 10 years later and seemed very
happy with what he was doing and where he was in life. Deserved
that.
.
Chad. Brilliant, UBER-smartass always-in-minor-trouble Chad had
become a successful up-and-coming cutthroat independent defense
attorney. Kinda cool NERDY in high school... kinda cool NERDY as
an adult. Again, nice guy in both cases. And I won't even qualify
that with "for an attorney".
.
Ron. Starting quarterback. Captain of the football team. Devastatingly
handsome. Was rumored to have had wild monkeylove with each and
every cheerleader -- PROBABLY not all at once... but we were never quite
sure. Dickhead. The epitome of every cliched BMOC you've ever heard of,
real or fictional. Came out of the closet with a VENGEANCE in college
and eventually returned an extremely effeminate, extremely NICE adult
who was the liaison for MiddleFingerMomMom's Ladies auxiallary at the
local hospital.
.
I had a couple of friends who were fairly effeminate, and 1920-born
repressed naive sweet MiddleFingerMomMom never seemed to guess at what
that MIGHT very well mean. She described each and every one of them the
exact same way -- "He's such a nice, EXTREMELY well-mannered boy".
.
If you can't tell, I liked MiddleFingerMomMom.
.
So, the ones I ran into seemed to have all turned out pretty well and
pretty happy. Which is a very nice thing.
.

17. By the way...
.
I wasn't a cool kid in high school. I was on a "Poindexter minor
troublemaker stoner who didn't smoke dope" kinda cultural level.
.
I was pretty cool -- I just wasn't a "cool kid". Roadied for my
best friend's band and hung out at the indie bookstore run by the
70-something curmudgeonly wild long-white-haired town Socialist.
Said things like, "Yeah, COLLECTIVES, man." without having the
slightest clue. Lived in a "commune" when I was 17 -- actually
just a two-bedroom 15-resident crash pad for people who dug
Hendrix and shit.
.
I was cool like dat.
.

15. Sure: they got married, had kids, got fat, got divorced, and now they sell Tupperware or Mary Kay.

You have NO idea how liberating it feels to run into a former cheerleader in her sweatpants and greasy hair in a grocery store--especially when you are dressed in a business suit, heels, and working in a professional job.

My high school was a real trip. Can't say I miss the experience much.

20. I went to my 10-year HS reunion (long time ago) and found
to my snarky delight that the "kool kidz" had turned into mostly losers, and the rest of us were doing pretty well.

And yes, I AM being snarky, but that part of me that was hurt and humiliated by the "kool kidz" can't help but get a chuckle out of that.

21. Sadly, at my school, koolness was mostly determined by value of parents house.
So the kool people (read: abusive elitist assholes) grew up to become lawyers, doctors, and in the case of one memorable woman in my class--members of the Bush family (seriously--she married into the Bush clan.)

22. No, never wondered
I was too often not there during the final three years I attended high school. I went to night school to finish up and get my diploma several years after my class graduated while holding a full time job during the day It seemed like I always had to do important things a different way, because I was so rebellious as a teen. If there was a class category for it, I probably would have been named most likely to be truant. Did my classmates think that I was cool? Maybe some did, but most probably did not. I did not participate in any school-related extracurricular activities, and not consciously try to be popular. I was one of the tallest in my class and had very long hair, but there were only a few guys that had short hair back then, in our class pictures.

One particularly memorable day, I returned to a class after having missed about a week, and a girl who sat next to me sneeringly said that there was no way that I was going to pass the test our English literature teacher was about to give to us. After the test was over our teacher had each student trade papers to check each others' answers. After he gave out the correct answers, to my classmate's shock and dismay, I had aced the exam, while she had answered quite a few questions incorrectly. I still can remember the expression on her face after all these years..lol!!

What about the "Lukewarm Kids"? No one cares what happened to them, do they now?

I'm not even going to mention the "Room Temperature" kids...it's just too painful a memory.

Athletically surpassed and culturally frozen. Peakin' too early is never a good aspiration.

And some are dead.

Another 30 years, and we'll all be gone.
