12. I did--I caught two shows on that tour!
Once the opener was Twisted Sister (at the height of their popularity--although I was there for Maiden) and the other time it was an open air show with the rest of the bill being Ratt, Accept and Mama's Boys.

Ah yes, high school... :headbang:

17. Let me Explain Iron Butterfly to you
They started in 1965. They were completely ahead of their time, and toured/played in So Cal relentlessly. Back then, that was how you got an audience. Not from radio airplay.
Here's a 1967 recording of their actual sound. "The Iron Butterfly Theme" Listen to this closely.

It's the precursor to Heavy Metal. THAT is why the name of the band. Dude. By the time In a Gadda Da Vida came out, the scene was over. We had moved on. A pop shell of what once was. They kicked ass for four years. Iron Maiden owes these guys a debt of gratitude for blazing the trail, so they could skip straight to their sound.

16. People who think
Inagaddadavida is one of the greatest rock songs of all time and Iron Maiden is just a loud Sabbath wannabe.

Just kidding, Maiden is cool, just like the Bustterfly more. Can't beat an 8 minute drum solo and a Hammond B3.
