Poll question: That Rick Roll song versus The dumbass Rush song about fighting trees.
I won't post either link, I am too kind-hearted for that.

6. More of an evergreen pine.
Although after vomiting, I forgot what trees were discussed and what each one meant in that song.

:P

2. Rush "The Trees" vs. George Orwell's "Animal Farm"
Which has more cultural and literary significance...both powerful, illustrative statements...but one is also set to music. That might tip the scales to Rush I'm afraid!

3. Powerful? Illustrative????
Sounds like a junior high poem some parent would say "Oh, Johnny, that's lovely" to just before telling her friends she thought Johnny should be a bookkeeper.

5. Also I would add Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron."
But Vonnegut didn't set that to music either. 'Cause he didn't rock like Rush.

7. Okay, comparing Orwell to Rush was sad enough, but Vonnegut?
Good grief, they teach literature less effectively even than music these days.

12. Many great authors got their inspiration from Rush.
Vonnegut's inspiration for Harrison Bergeron was "The Trees."

Mark Twain's inspiration for Tom Sawyer was, well, "Tom Sawyer."

Tolkien's inspiration for Lord of the Rings was "Rivendell."

Tolstoy's inspiration for War and Peace was "2112."

Wade Phillips' inspiration for the Cowboy's offense was "Losing It."

16. I think Rush is more like "Ayn Rand for Dummies"
Which can be interpreted as "Dummies for Dummies."

Mark Twain couldn't have been influenced by Rush. His brain would never have ceased funtioning that completely. Even dead, he's horrified by the Ayn Rand-spin the Gooberband gave to his story.

10. "The Trees" is Randian claptrap
Sounds like a scab anthem to me, and a serious misinterpretion to what equality is really about (i.e. they make the right-wing fallacy of accusing leftists of wanting equality of outcome, when in fact, we want equality of opportunity).

17. Kind of reminds me of Reagan praising "Born in the USA" as a flag-waving song.
You'd think people here would listen to the lyrics...
