2. Joe Ferguson throwing Sal Bando out at the plate in Game 1 of the 1974 World Series.
Joe was a right fielder for the Dodgers. Sal Bando was the third baseman for the Oakland Athletics. Bando reached third on an error in the 8th inning. The next batter hit a long fly ball to center field, and Dodgers center fielder Jimmy Winn was camped under it. Ferguson sprinted all the way from right field to jump in front of Wynn and catch the ball while Bando tagged up and started for home. Ferguson threw a perfect strike that got to catcher Steve Yeager a fraction of a second before Bando did. Yeager caught the ball, Bando bowled him over, and Yeager rolled away from the plate backwards. When Yeager finally stopped rolling, he held the ball high in his bare hand, and Bando was called out.

I was 13. It's the only World Series game I've ever attended, and it was the most exciting sports play I've ever seen with my own eyes.

5. Joe Montana to John Taylor (Jan. 1989 Superbowl)
Joe Montana to Jerry Rice with SF behind and 0:02 to go against Cincinnati (Fall 1987)

Steve Young 51 yard rushing TD against the Vikings (1991 or something)

NY Giants Patriots Superbowl (Giants reception off the helmet)...at that point I said if they don't win, I'll be crushed

Three plays actually. Nice return by Metcalf. Nice pass from Plummer to Frank Sanders to get in field goal range. Jacke nails a 51 yard field goal in 1998 to send the Cardinals to the playoffs for the first time in 33 years in a non-strike year.

The best part was, my entire family (many of them UCLA graduates) was convinced the Bruins had lost the game and were out of the Tournament. I was the only one left in the living room watching TV when it happened, and I then had the pleasure of walking into the other room and going: "Guys--they won."

Had Mizzou advanced, UConn would have feasted on them. Then Donyell Marshall would've been playing in a Final Four in his home town of Seattle.

Thanks for nothing, Tyus! :grr:

22. Bill Mazeroski's 9th inning homer to win the 1960 World Series
The Yankees trounced the Pirates in 3 games, while the Pirates won 3 squeakers. Then Mazeroski hit his come-from-behind homer in the 9th inning in Game 7 to clinch it for the Pirates. It was the stuff of dreams for boys growing up in the '60s .

29. As a college hoops and Duke fan, obviously I pick this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AY-iq58_oz4

1992 regional final between Duke and Kentucky. Duke had built a comfortable lead in the first half. Then Kentucky, a team that was just coming back from NCAA sanctions, came back. The game went to overtime. Kentucky was up by 1 point, 103-102. 2.1 seconds remained. Duke was inbounding the ball from the other end of the court.

Grant Hill, son of Calvin Hill the football player, made a terrific pass to Christian Laettner who dribbled for what seemed to be an eternity and then he shot the ball. It went in. Duke had won and was back to the Final Four with a chance to repeat as national champions (which they did).

I cried (yes, I know, lame, especially for a girl). There have been great plays since, but that's still special to me.

32. YouTube is impossible to find sports clips due to licensing issues, so I'll just list my faves:
1. Cal Ripken hitting a home run in consecutive game number 2,131. Talk about rising to the occassion.
2. Alex Gonzalez hitting a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 12th inning of Game 4 of the 2003 World Series
3. Pudge Rodriguez singleing in the tying and winning runs in the bottom of the 11th inning in Game 3 of the 2003 NLDS--I was at that game, and it remains the most exciting moment in sports that I've ever witnessed personally.

34. 1989 Pistons vs bulls ( and I was at the game)
by 89 the two teams were basically at war..the *bad boy* Pistons vs the golden child MJ.

Jordan had talked up how he was gonna lay 50 on the pistons at the Palace so the bad boys told him dont try a dunk.

about two minutes in he tried to dunk...he landed several rows up in the stands...he didn't attempt another dunk that night and NO he didn't get 50..he got 18
