You can't lie; what did you think was the first line of "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me"? |
|
Or the second line if you count "I can't lie" as the first one.
Me: "I can't lie/ No more Augie Dog"

That and the line "And the dogs say goodnight" from Louis Armstrong's version of "It's a Wonderful World"

2. I just thought it was another love story. I don't pay attention to the words much. |

Oh, you youngsters! How much you miss of the visual and tactile appeal of a real, live LP record and its sleeve. I could read the lyrics right along with the song on Elton John albums, so I always knew it was "I can't light no more of your darkness." In the case of this song, however (and to this very day), it didn't really help with comprehension of what the hell the song was about. I also can't listen to it without wanting to hear "Ticking" immediately afterward.

4. Though I was a huge fan, I never bought the record. |

I'm scampering along towards 48 years old, but after listening to an old-time radio show wherein a 50-year-old was twice called elderly, I'll gratefully accept being called a youngster.
