You know I might not want to live there, but damn, it sure seems like a cool place to visit, especially Austin. Hell, the Barbecue alone would be worth a trip...

2. I'm going to get in early on this thread, before it turns ugly, and say... |

this is the first (and probably only OP) outside of the Texas forum with anything positive to say about Texas.
Glad you're having a good time.
You do know Austin is not quite like the rest of Texas, right? ;-)

4. Never been to Texas, actually. |

I know about Austin. Someone lent me a book about Austin by Kinky Friedman, and it sounded like a very interesting place to go.

yeah, there are some crazy right wingers but all our big cities are neat, each in its own way.
We have great museums, theater, opera, ballet, public art, water holes, beaches, Mexican Food, barbecue,
and soon,, very very soon..

12. Go to the Marion Koogler McNay Museum. |
|
It's a hidden jewel on the Northeast Side.
(I went to college in San Antonio -- Trinity University)
There are five or six universities -- they have concerts and talks and such.

Piney Woods. Delicious food, easy going pace, and that's where I lived when I first came to the United States in 1974. In retrospect, it could have been much worse, since my husband and I were the only interracial couple in town. I have many, many good memories.

I'm a big enough history nerd to have enjoyed the Alamo, and I'm enough of a stupid tourist to have enjoyed all the tourist traps that surround it. I thought the river walk was neat and potentially kind of romantic.
I would've loved to have toured one of the intact missions I read about. And my boys loved the trip to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels.
