I thought I was hell-on-wheels in my college and fighter pilot drinking days.
Compared to these guys I was a Sunday school teacher.

Hell of a read about those boozing days.

1. I had read a story about Burton and Harris appearing in a play somewhere...

... and they had time between the departure from the stage in Act I and
their re-entry during Act II to go across the street to a pub to continue
their drinking.
.
Realizing they were late going back, they RACED across the street -- utterly
shitfaced. Burton ran onstage towards the front, having missed his cue by
only a few seconds. He stumbled, fell, and slid completely off the front of
the stage to land pretty much in the lap of a fairly disgusted audience
member. He looked up, saw her expression, and said, "You think THIS is bad...
just wait'll you see Harris!!!"

Would have liked to have known them then.

The theater eventually had a phone installed in the pub to give them their stage calls.
