Montreal, 2 years on - ask me anything
A few stream-of-consciousness items:

1. Although I regret smarting off in 1985 (while living in Houston) about Montreal being a livable place 20 years from then because of global warming, I've really enjoyed the two freakishly mild winters we've had since I've been here. I still feel guilty about smarting off, though.

2. Mom's going to have a thrombo when she comes back from Florida and sees the maple leaf tattoo I got on my left ankle for my birthday in November. I don't think Dad will care. :P I got the tat to congratulate myself on getting out of the States when I had the chance. I haven't changed my mind about either of those.

3. Although the cats don't speak French, they apparently understand it just fine. :D

Anything else?

1. Have your cats' meows changed?
They should be speaking with Canadien accents now.

2. The one that speaks dog has the same accent as before, eh.
He spent too much time outdoors when he was little, I think. :P

The furballs seem to enjoy being Canadian kittehs. :)

3. How often have you been to Tim's?
This is not a trick question.

4. Actually, only twice
But I have a Tim's gift card with $2 on it, and their donuts are devastating.

The one nearest my house - 8 minute walk - is open round the clock, and the street it's on is closed to vehicular traffic during the summer. Methinks I'll be visiting a lot more.

6. How's le Metro?
Edited on Sat Mar-27-10 10:20 PM by KamaAina
I hear that Montrealers love to complain about it, but it sounds a whole lot better than San Jose's pokey, two-line light rail.

And what are the Habs looking like?

7. Le Métro is le awesome
I miss my car in the abstract (I loaned it to my dad since he plowed much bucks into getting us settled in once we got here), but I really enjoy not having to drive. Everyone (but me) bitches about it, but it runs on time, as do the buses (weird, I know!), and winter would be a lot harder to take without it.

The Habs, on the other hand, continue to suck. They were cursed with tons of injuries this year, but they still suck. It looks like they'll barely make it to the playoffs, where the suckage will no doubt continue.

I watch every game without fail.

8. How often do you eat poutine?
A friend of mine testifies to its addictive deliciousness.

9. I have never had poutine
I like the individual components of poutine just fine, but I'm not sure about the combination - and if it really is as addictive as everyone says, it's the last thing I need to try.

10. I'm curious that if you should request it with no curds
is that grounds for deportation. :-)

13. I would never do that
The cheese here is phenomenal, and I always keep a bag of cheese curds to snack on. Of course, I'm from here, so they can't deport me. :D

11. Bagels - Fairmount or St. Viateur?
Do you have a favorite place for smoked meat?

14. St-Viateur - this week
Between the two, it's usually the last one I've been to. :)

I had a sensational smoked meat sandwich in one of those little dive shops a while back, but I have to ask my sister where it was. :P

(billboard in the Metro)

(and those row houses, they are so cool)

15. The Métro has the coolest billboards
Many of which would give the U.S. in its entirety a stroke. The ones for the sex-shop lingerie around Valentine's Day were pretty steamy. My current favorite is one for the Canadian Colorectal Cancer Association, which features an extreme close-up of a rather full rounded nude tuchus with the tagline "Show Us Your Cheeks!", complete with website.

Every spring, everybody goes into overdrive with cleaning yards and planting flowers, no matter how small the yard. It's amazing. Plus we actually have a spring here. :)
