Any Antique Experts Here? Need Help Identifying This (photo)
My Mom and I are going through items in our attic and a spare bedroom. My Grandpa use to buy a lot of antiques years ago and we found this. It still has a price tag on it and all it says is 'Bronze Art Noveau'and the price. Has anyone ever seen anything like this before? I can find no markings on numbers anywhere on the piece. I think it is something nautical, but that is just a hunch on my part.Sorry for the blurry pic.I am in desperate need of a new camera. We would love to know what the hell this thing is. Thanks for looking!

1. might help if you gave dimensions or took another photo with a ruler
or some other familiar object for scale.

in that shot, the face looks like Nixon with a strange toupee!

12. Art Nouveau era was all about organic styling
and the mermaid theme was popular. Am thinking this is a bookmark or paperweight from about 1885-95...just guessing.

13. I'm not sure what that bronze thing is but that yellow thing is likely a measuring device.

10. Actually
Actually, it looks to be a Mermaid, which is why I thought it was some sort of old time nautical tool. It's pretty col looking but I am dying of curiosity to know WTF it could be.Can't be any kind of silverware. Looks to have a handle though.

17. A holy coke spoon? I see no signs of wear so that could
mean it is solely decorative or never used as a tool

14. My dear romantico...
If I were you, I'd look for The Antiques Roadshow, when they might be in town.

I don't know how you'd find out such a thing, though...

But if you could get on there, they would surely know.

Perhaps someone in a local museum could help.

It's a most beautiful and intriguing item!

:hi:

15. Looks like a door knocker to me
The arms of the figure aren't detailed so they probably rested in some sort of bracket.

19. that was my thought too - the arms are too plain for the rest of the item
and it seems like the angle of the head is wrong, also it looks like the upper part is heavier than the part that would be the knocker...???

28. Are there any places on the back that might be attachment points?
I'm wondering if it could be a decorative element from a piece of furniture. I don't think it's a tool, nautical or otherwise. Good luck figuring out what it is.
