Poll question: A Question for Lounge NFL Fans Regarding the Draft
Edited on Sun Mar-28-10 08:50 PM by OmahaBlueDog
Bothe Seattle and San Francisco have two First Round Picks. Should these teams try to trade up to take Ndamkong Suh?

1. Neither will get the chance unless they pull a Ditka and trade their entire draft.
The Rams will take him and won't trade the top pick. Count on it.

However, in the interest of answering your question, both teams would be wise to make the Rams a really good offer.

3. really? most mock drafts I've seen
has the Rams taking Bradford - and they DO need a QB.

Not saying I disagree, I don't have a horse in the race, just saying that's not the consensus from what I've seen.

5. The Rams would be better off taking Suh and trading their Second rounder for McNab
or another solid veteran.

4. Most columnists I have seen have the Rams taking Bradford and
Suh going to the Lions.

Henerally, I am a believer in trading down. However, Suh looks like he might be one of the best D-linemen to come out of college in a long time. He could easily anchor a defense for a decade if he stays healthy.

2. I'd like to see the Niners trade up for Bradford
This is a QB league.

6. Tom Brady wan't a particularly high pick. Neither was Kurt Warner
Roethlisberger was a first rounder, but not a top 10; ditto Aaron Rogers.

The Niners need to build solid lines, then go QB shopping.

10. After Alex Smith, I don't think they'd do that.
QBs as high first round draft picks have been low percentage picks for the last decade. Look at the top QBs in the league now. The Mannings and McNabb were top picks (McNabb was two), and Rivers was in the top 5, but Favre and Brees were second rounders, Brady was a sixth rounder, I think, and Romo was undrafted. Rothlisburger was a first rounder, but somewhere around eleven or twelve.

Meanwhile a lot of high profile QB picks have busted. Alex Smith, JaMarcus Russel, David Carr, and Tim Couch were all number one picks. Matt Leinart, Jay Cutler, Akili Smith, Ryan Leaf, Harrington, Leftwich, and probably others I've forgotten were high picks, and have been average to awful. It's hard to say on Carson Palmer--two great years sandwhiching a lot of mediocrity to me means the jury is still out. And some, like Stafford, Ryan, and Vince Young, it's just too early to say for sure. I'm leaving out Michael Vick because I don't really know how to call him. And there's Brady Quinn, whom the experts picked high but whom the NFL scouts passed on. I think everyone but Cleveland, who just likes pretty white boys over talented less white QBs, knew he was a bust.

I like Bradford, but I don't think I'd trade up for him. Honestly I don't rank him that much higher than McCoy. He had two great years, but he's been injury prone. He won the Heisman in a close ballot amongst McCoy and Tebow. McCoy beat Bradford on the field that year. They were both stat machines in the years they played. Bradford's a little bigger, and that's the only edge I give him. Certainly he never proved anything on the field that McCoy didn't prove, too. I don't see Bradford as that much more of a good bet than McCoy or Clausen.

7. The Real Question Regarding the Draft Is This....
What's the over/under on how many times will ESPN, NFL Network, and other sports media over use "My name is Suh. How do you do? Now you're gonna die." and other such references to that Johnny Cash song?

8. Whoa! Suh + Patrick Willis = fearsome Niners D
and with Warner (and Boldin, etc.) out of the picture, we're already the favorites in the (admittedly crappy) NFC West!
