Kate Winslet's dialogue in Titanic: |
|
I just finished watching all 27 hours of the film, and I've transcribed her lines as close to verbatim as possible.
"Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack? Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack. Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack? Jack? Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack? Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack. Jack? Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack. Jack? Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Jack! Wow. That James Cameron fellow sure can write some dialogue.

20. I liked the movie, so |

there. :P
The Irish whistle in "Hymn to the Sea" sounded wonderful, and I liked the dance scene music too.
The movie wasn't the best I've ever seen, but I didn't think it was bad.

13. She was actually saying "Jerk!" |
|
She's got that accent that makes it sound like "Jack." Like some people pronounce "envelope" as "ohn-velope"
Probably addressed to Cameron or DiCaprio or herself for getting involved with the whole mess.
She had nice boobies though.

15. Well, I have an excuse |
|
My six-year-old has recently developed an interest in the sinking and discovery of the Titanic, so I was taping it to let him see the early underwater scenes and everything post-iceberg.
I won't bother him with the "romance" that clogs the screen for the other five hours.

17. I dunno, I think she's good in whatever she does... she has such a great |
|
presence. I was surprised to like this film as much as I did (only saw it recently). Cameron sure has a thing about water, though.
(we also recently saw the Abyss and that was quite good too - Cameron really works hard to make the films realistic.)

28. Winslet is a brilliant performer, no question. |
|
But in terms of character and dialogue, Cameron's script approximately measure up to a George Lucas offering.
And regarding his realism: in both The Abyss and Titanic, he spends a lot of screen time telling us how quickly fatal the cold water can be, and then he has people swimming around in it casually and with no ill effects, until dramatically necessary, of course...

|
Someone else mentioned Forrest Gump. I'd put Saving Private Ryan and Schindler's List in there, too. You see these movies once, and you're done with them forever. Avatar is going to be the same thing, I think. Everyone would like a Lord of the Rings or Star Wars kind of repeat viewership, but it just doesn't happen all that often.

29. I'm actually quite fond of both Forrest Gump and Schindler's List |
|
I've seen each of them about a dozen times, I'd guess. I know that these films don't have the endorsement of Teh Lounge, but I still like them.
As for Titanic, I can watch the whole sinking sequence about once a year, but that's enough for me.

36. I've seen it accused of "being manipulative" and "telling people how to feel" |
|
Because it's so easy to be ambivalent about The Holocaust, I guess.

33. The Sixth Sense is the same way |
|
Once you know Bruce Willis actually got whacked in the first five minutes of the movie, you don't ever need to see it again.

37. And if you happened to realize it during the course of the movie, the whole thing falls flat |
|
It was just about then that I began to suspect that Shyamalan is essentially a one-trick pony, and everything he's done since then has proven it.

38. Oh yeah, Shymalan (sp?) movies |
|
I've only seen Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, but once the cat's out of the bag, there's no point in watching those movies again, though I have to concede that I enjoyed watching them the first time.

34. My wife wanted to see that movie in the theatre |
|
We went to a triplex theatre. After the first half hour I decided this movie was whack, so I watched the other two movies in their entirety, then went back to the first screening room and caught the last half-hour of Titanic.
