Oscar's Best Actress Curse?
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 12:35 AM by Yavin4
Win an Oscar. Lose your SO:

61% of the award's winners since 1993 have had troubles in their love lives after

With the news of Sandra Bullock's husband's alleged infidelity and Kate Winslet's impending divorce from Sam Mendes, we realized that the last two winners of the Best Actress Academy Award both have had marital issues.

Looking back, it's more than just these two whose relationships disintegrated after they won the coveted award. Reese Witherspoon scooped up the honor in 2006, and lost husband Ryan Phillippe in 2007. And there are many more.

It may be every actress' dream to win a Best Actress Oscar -- but unfortunately, it may come at the cost of the men in their lives. We have to ask -- is the award cursed? Bonnie Fuller, Editor-in-Chief of HollywoodLife.com, believes it is.

2. If by curse, do you mean some people that think they have the right to decide what that means.
Edited on Tue Mar-30-10 02:32 AM by RandomThoughts
There are some people that actually think they are like gods, and have the right to curse people. And they can do it in the ways people think of as curses. Things that try to manipulate free will, or cause hardship by calling stuff to go after them. Or they can call friends to run stories in papers. Its like the groups that think God gave them blessings because they are special, and they get to decide where they go, but they take it to the dark side and think they also get to decide on curses. Note that I think it is best to bless both enemy and friend, and let God figure out the rest.

Here is the thing, there is a group, that if they want to go after another group, they go after anyone they can that might be thought near that group, so that people will think that group is cursed.

Hard to give an example, So lets say someone did not like Hollywood. They could write bad stories, or create bad events for anyone that goes near, or is appreciated by Hollywood. Why would they do that. To make people think Hollywood is cursed. That has not happened, nor should, it but it is a vague example.

Maybe a historical example is easier. Lets say a reporter goes against McCarthyism. He writes an article on how it is wrong. If the guy could not get fired, they could try and get bad things to happen to anyone that might be around the person, then turn around and actually say the person is cursed, when they are doing the thing. The thing is, there is a group that actually thinks they are allowed to curse people. So bad group does things to people around some group. Then says some group must be cursed by what happened to them.

Its really twisted.

Not saying that has anything to do with that case, nor saying her issues do either, but hyping the coverage is controllable. And it is really easy for some people to put some stories on media rotation, and not others.

So there is always that.

Note that when you bless an enemy, you do not bless the things you disagree with, like you would not want a violent person to be successful at violence, but you can find something nice and hope that part is appreciated more in them or helps them find happiness. Nor do I think I am any more special then anyone else, just that all of us can think good thoughts about people.

4. How does that compare to the overall population of their peer group.
Isn't a 61% combined break-up, divorce, and infidelity rate kinda low by Hollywood standards?

5. What a stupid article
Belittles the men for not being as famous or successful as the women and suggests the men can not handle successful wives.

I want to see the control research for actresses who do not win and just plain common ordinary folks who live in LA.

Stupid article written to fit a stupid idea.

BTW, Meryl Streep has been married to the same guy since 1978.

7. Marital troubles? Oscar winning women also suffer (from what I've seen) from a severe drop off
in the availability of quality roles for them.
