help me name a kitty cat!
I have a stray who's been hanging around for about a year. She was very very shy at first and would run away as soon as she saw me. She's warmed up to enough that she now runs over whenever she sees me come out of the house. She meows, purrs and will sit about within arm's reach of me but moves away if I try to pet her. (I don't push it, I'm talk to her and sometimes give her little treats but give her her space)

Anyway she's had so many names over the year and I need a permanent one. She's been called Pumpkin, Zelda (after my daughter's favorite video game), Kiki, and Lucy so far. (She's a pretty little petite, ginger tabby...a real beauty, shy but sweet personality) Any ideas?

4. Are you sure the cat is female?
The majority of ginger tabbies are male.

7. some good ideas!
I know ginger tabbies are males like 70% of the time but I think I've got a 30 percenter. I haven't seen any signs of male doodads in the back and she has very feminine features with no tufts around the face like male cats have ....so I'm pretty sure she's a girl. She's got a very "girly" voice too, it's so cute!

10. Peanut goes either way.
And peanuts are a gingerish color.

Or Marmalade.

Or Gingersnap.

Boy, I think I need to get a snack.

12. lol...well I've already had a "Peanut"
he was my favorite cat ever...not a peanut at all, he was a MAGNIFICENTLY large kitty, such a lover too. Kinda like Gingersnap because she's little high strung, fits her personality...

5. It's so cool how you are slowly winning her trust...
I don't think a name is as important as you giving such a beautiful little creature a loving home. I had a stray female who had several litters on my large back deck before I could entice her inside. I was away most of the time, out of town helping my Mom, so it took awhile for me to gain her trust and finally get her to come into the house. When I finally did she became one of the most gentle, loving cats I've ever seen. And she was completely ferrel. I ended up calling her 'Marcie' because I already had a male cat named "KC". I wanted them to have similar names and Marcie fit her well. My suggestion is to just give it time and a name will pop out of nowhere. It is so cool of you to give her a home!

11. Well if she warms up to me I'll probaby let her live inside...me being a softy and all
She spent the winter in my shed (with a few other neighborhood kitty squatters...I didn't mind). The old guy next door feeds them, I'll give them "treats" once in awhile. She's kind of high strung (mostly when other cats are around). I think she likes me, she chirps, meows and purrs and lets me get close...just can't touch her. I've gotten her to come on the front porch so maybe I'll eventually "win" her over.

32. I just adopted a male one just like yours.
I have named him Topaz. He came with two female siblings whom I named Crystal and Spinel. All after gemstones. Crystal looks like a ragdoll with blue eyes and Spinel is domestic black/white.

They're 8 months old now. Topaz has been found to have heartworms. :( There's no treatment for cats with heartworms so I am hoping he will outlive those worms. "Topaz" has a meaning of "happy, long life" so I am hoping it will give him luck. Topaz is a very sweet boy.

35. Thanks for all the great suggestions!
I'm more confused than ever so I'm going to enlist the help of my inside cat Elmer. I'm going to write every name that's been suggested on a small piece of paper, crumple them up into balls and throw them on the floor. Which ever one my senior kitteh Elmer attacks first will be the kitty's new name! (I'd let the ginger kitty pick her own name but I don't think she's game for it) Elmer will do a fantastic job and I'll let you know the results. (Just going to allow for a few more suggestions to get into the mix)

37. She looks like an imp to me.
Like she's got a mischievous streak.

Peri comes to mind. It's a Persian faery. Or Fey, or Sylph.

Eh, I like applying human names to pets. Or the names of Gods; I once talked my mother into naming her dog "Casseopeia;" Cassie for short. Methe (pronounced, I think, MAY-thay) is the Greek nymph of drunkenness. Lots of fun in those old names.

24. I have a lovely pale ginger feral who lives under my porch.
She has a heated cathouse for the winter, she only lets me pet her when I feed her, but she hangs out near me and we converse.
Her strawberry blondness inspired me to name her Nicole Kitman.

By the way thanks for all the AWESOME name ideas! You came up with some clever ones.
The one that won is actually one that was suggested by my friend and went into the drawing at the last second. So really it's meant to be......

And the name Elmer picked for my sweet, shy ginger kitty friend....

SAFFRON!(We'll call her Saffie for short) I think it works for her :)

Thanks again!
