5. I loved staying in a cottage on an island in Maine |
|
My family rented it for two weeks each summer when I was a kid, more than 50 years ago, but it's still one of my favorite places! Also many good memories of time spent at my friend's family's log cabin on a lake in Maine when we were in high school. My friend always loved the lake area and built a house there to live in year-round.
Have you had the cottage for a long time?

7. My parents built the cottage when I was 3 or 4. I learnt to swim there. We had cousins next door. It |

was wonderful. And we had parties there as young adults that went on all night. Good innocent fun.

I just sold my house recently and it's very emotional. I, too, hope they love it as much as my family did. It's hard. :(

9. We are selling my parents cottage because it is too much |
|
work to keep it going when we don't use it that much. Last year I went up to the lake about 4 times with my parents and they no longer can get down the ladder to the water to swim because they have aged. My friends all live in other cities from this one so I don't use it for my own needs. It takes about 3 or 4 days a year to open and close it (it isn't winterized) so it is alot of work for just 4 or 5 visits. And it is beginning to fall apart (the rock garden needs a big effort). So my parents decided to sell.
I hope it goes to a family that has kids. It was such a joy to have growing up.

10. That is so sad. So many memories. |
|
I bet that new family will fall in love with it too. It sounds like a wonderful place for kids. I wish I had a place like that for mine. People don't buy places like that unless they feel the same way. It's still so hard to give it up. :-(

It must be terrible to leave behind such a beautiful spot with so many lovely memories. Maybe think of it as passing it on to some other children to cherish and build memories in?
