1. Rockies head to Milwaukee to start the season
Go Rockies!! Having 4 pitchers on DL to start the season is not good. :evilfrown:

Red Sox and Yankees I believe is the only regular season game on today. Should be a good one.

2. Saw the Rockies vs. Mariners on Friday night here in Albuquerque
froze our asses off, and we lasted only 6 innings, but it's warm out today ( of course).Game ended in an 11 to 11 tie; Rockies fought back from being down 11-3... We only have triple A here, but it's still pretty good baseball. And bottom line, it's BASEBALL. Meanwhile, I predict that my Cubbies are going to win the world series.

3. I hope they do
If the Rockies don't win it all. I was bummed out in 2003 when we didn't have a Cubs-Red Sox World Series and since the Sox won the Cubs are left.

5. I won't hold my breath, although stranger things have happened... no wait... they haven't
of course as our legendary, pre-Harry Caray announcer, Jack Brickhouse used to say; "everyone has a bad century once in a while." I personally blame last year's collapse on Geovonny Soto's pot bust during the off season after being rookie of the year in '08...obviously he's being tested regularly by MLB now and look at his stoner vs. post-stoner stats:

Year Age Tm Lg G PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI SB CS BB SO BA OBP SLG OPS OPS+ TB GDP HBP SH SF IBB Pos Awards

2008 25 CHC NL 141 563 494 66 141 35 2 23 86 0 1 62 121 .285 .364 .504 .868 118 249 11 2
2009 26 CHC NL 102 389 331 27 72 19 1 11 47 1 0 50 77 .218 .321 .381 .702 79 126 19 3

As someone who's been a Cub fan since 1959 ( and that rare Chicagoan who's both a Sox and Cub fan, so '59 was great year ; I was 8), the great collapse of '03 was not the least bit of a shock. It was just further proof that god is still in charge and that the universe was still running according to his, her's, their or its, design....But thanks for the good wishes. I have actually been to a handful of Rockies games up in Denver in recent years, and am somewhat of a Rockies fan now, besides the Cubs and Sox. I think they are a genuine contender and I hope to get up there and see a game or two this summer. And the Cubs are there on my birthday this year too.

7. Cubs at Atlanta!
Atlanta is expected to contend and I still believe my Cubs will at least be competitive. 3:00 CDT. I'll have my ass in front of the TV, that's for sure. I think Opening Day should be a National holiday. The REAL opening day, not this manufactured yankees/red sox crap ESPN is trying to shove down our throats.

14. No, here on FiOS there are two Florida sports stations.
I get to see most Lightning games and a good number of Rays games that way. MLB Network carries them maybe once a month, if I'm lucky.

Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 12:24 AM by mvd
Let's win another World Series!

I'm a little worried that we have to rely on both Moyer and Kendrick while workmanlike Blanton is out. And they didn't do a great job with the bullpen IMO. But the pieces are clearly there if Hamels, Lidge, and Romero come back strong.

37. Yeah, he wanted to remove the bags under his eyes....
He had A hernia repaired, which developed an infection, reqiring a second surgery to remove an abcess. And he had knee surgery, I believe.

He seems to be better than he has been in years, certainly incredible for 47 years old....

41. Again, like Jack Brickhouse used to say..."a bad century"
True Cub fans expect and revel in this kind of thing. When they blew the 2003 playoffs, I must have gotten at least a half dozen calls from friends expressing various levels of "condolences" and that I probably "can't believe it" etc.... none of those calls were from people who grew up in Chicago. There were 2 other ex-patriate north-side Chicagoans where I worked, and when we saw each other the morning after blowing game 7 against Florida, (we had the lead in that one too, not just the "Bartman game") we just looked at each other and started laughing "of course they blew it". It's prepared me well for life as a Democrat, with an attitude not of will they blow it, but how and when....
