7:23 p.m. in Switzerland. What's on the menu for Easter dinner where y'all are?

We're not big observers of Easter, so we're having spaghetti carbonara with oven-baked baguettes and a fresh green salad topped with artichoke hearts and mixed seeds (shelled pumpkin and sunflower) with homemade creamy Italian dressing. No dessert, except for the big, gold-wrapped Lindt & Sprungli chocolate rabbit that came with our Swisscom order for CMW's mom's early mother's day gift. :D

5. I celebrated with my family at grandma's this morning

We had the usual midwestern breakfast fare: Breakfast casserole, bacon, biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, and fruit salad washed down with orange juice and coffee.

We're not so much about the religiosity of the holiday, either, but we're not too proud to stage an Easter egg hunt. And my little niece swears she saw the Easter Bunny last night when he delivered her goodies.

19. apparently she wasn't feeling well this morning

but is up and seems fine now...

and we had baked sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli, cauliflower and brussels sprouts with a mustard-cheese sauce.

7. I'll be heading over to my mom's for dinner

The whole family gets together for these occasions. We usually have a smoked ham, awesome homemade ham gravy, mashed potatoes, candied yams and a fresh tomato-and-onion salad. The big question is whether my mom got an Oscar's ham. Oscar's is a smokehouse in Warrensburg that burnt down last year and finally started operating again about a month ago. Last Easter was the only one in memory when we didn't have an Oscar's ham.

...reminded me of when I was working my way through college in a small
wholesale florist greenhouse. I forget how many boxes of tulip bulbs
we would order from Holland, but in just one of the boxes, they would
place a wheel of Gouda cheese.

Whenever we found the cheese, it was hardcore cracker & cheese time
with wine or soda (whichever was age appropriate) and the rest of the
day off.

11. not sure yet- we didn't really plan anything big

We did color eggs, kid got his Easter basket, I made cinnamon bread and we went for a great walk in the park just a while ago. Lovely day with so many plants and trees blooming.


Husband was talking about making a pizza of some sort... :hi:

And mashed spuds and a salad. It's just a Sunday dinner, not really Easter dinner.

Usually do some kind of strawberries and pound cake, but felt like pie this year. The rest are having cheap beer. I have a bottle of Washington state sparkling wine.

17. Hubs family is Catholic

and we are both agnostic/athiest so just dinner with the family. SIL #1 made a brisket and some potato salad, SIL#2 made some really good baked beans, SIL#3 made a racist comment at the dinner table about the kids in an underprivileged part of town and she's a teacher. :eyes:

I made a huge salad with mixed baby greens and spinach, celery, carrots, dried cranberries, fresh apple chunks, honey tangerine segments, wild onions hubs collected this morning, sugar plum tomatoes, cukes, strawberries and a lemon balsamic vinaigrette. And these:

Was a good dinner except for SIL#3 as per usual. I didn't let the remark slide and replied that it really was too bad that she couldn't just teach rich little white kids. Her husband, one of hubs younger brothers is a Limphead. We usually avoid them. :mad:

18. Thick cut pork chops on the grill.

It is the official opening day of grill season here. Of course the possibility of an oncoming tornado might make things problematic but:shrug: it's grilling season.

We're also having salad, last year's corn from the garden, and french bread from the local bakery.
