OH SHIT, MAJOR NFL Breaking news: NcNabb traded to the REDSKINS!
Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 07:36 PM by charlie and algernon

Sources: McNabb headed to Washington
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5055346

The Philadelphia Eagles have reached agreement on a blockbuster intra-division trade that will send perennial Pro Bowl quarterback Donovan McNabb to the Washington Redskins, according to multiple sources close to the situation.

The two sides still must finalize language, but McNabb is now headed to Washington. Sources said the deal involved the Redskins' second-round pick in the 2010 draft and either a third- or fourth-round pick next year, depending on several factors.

The move means the Redskins now have a new starting quarterback and the Eagles have a new one as well in Kevin Kolb. Michael Vick is now in line as the team's backup.

Earlier, sources said McNabb's contract, which has one year and $11.2 million left on it, scared off several other teams. McNabb is due a $6.2 million roster bonus on May 5 and is scheduled to become a free agent after the 2010 season.

At the league meetings, head coach Andy Reid said the Eagles were listening to offers for all three quarterbacks, including 11-year veteran McNabb, who quickly said on his Web site that he wanted a quick resolution to the trade conversations.

2. Rumors were really heating this weekend involving Washington
This does surprise me because Shannahan didn't express anything one way or the other and Campbell was improving.

5. this looks like a "win right now" move
Cambell is still a couple years away from fully maturing, so they bring in the best veteran QB on the market for the chance to win now rather than later.

15. How long can McNabb last with that offensive line of the Deadskins?
Seems like an awfully bizarre trade.

16. Probably about as long as Campbell would have lasted
There is still time for linemen and they got the #4 overall pick and now with Bradford or Clausen out of the picture they will probably draft Okung or that tackle from Iowa.

18. Brian Bulaga is the tackle from Iowa.
But I didn't know he may get drafted by the 'skins.

20. Take it FWIW
I'm basing that on the analysts that have Detroit taking Okung with the 2nd overall pick, project Washington taking Bulaga since Okung won't be available. I think that is even more likely since they're highly unlikely going to take Clausen or Bradford since they got McNabb.

4. I think Donovan McNabb will do pretty well in Washington.
They've had QB issues for years. If McNabb can stay healthy, he'll be an asset to Washington. The man has a wicked arm. But I don't think he makes them enough better to challenge teams like Philadelphia and New York. Dallas is mercurial; they sometimes look great but in reality are maybe the third best team in the division.

McNabb's a Chicago guy and DC is East Chicago these days, so maybe the town will embrace him.

7. Also
Donovan McNabb has been in the west coast offense his whole career and Shanahan runs the west coast offense. Shanahan runs a much more run-heavy variant than Andy Reid of the system so that should help him out even more. It helps because he is not going into a system where he is completely unfamiliar with.

10. McNabb is going to be VERY motivated to play the Eagles too.
How much disrespect is that from the Eagles to trade within the division? It might bite them in the ass.....

6. I think they decided that with Westbrook gone...
they needed to rebuild a bit. He was the heart and soul of that team and without him they had no chance at all. Go with Vick and get something for Donovan...

11. Actually, Vick is still the backup.
Kevin Kolb is the projected starter. Part of the reason Philly made the trade is that they had three QBs who could play. Now they're down to two, and Vick is the second-best one.

31. Vick has always had most of the tools...
...but he lacks one. Below the neck he's probably the most talented QB in the league. Under the helmet is where his problems lie. Atlanta has a better QB now than Vick ever was. He's got scary skills which worry defenses, but he tends to find ways to fail.

19. McNabb gave the Eagles a lot of good moments
So it is a bittersweet day for me. Really wanted him to win a Super Bowl. But I don't think it was going to happen here. I just hope trading him to a division rival doesn't come back to haunt us. Shanahan is a better coach than Reid at this point IMO and may get the best out of McNabb. I do have hope in Kolb, and maybe we can get Tebow also. After all, our GM has U. of Florida connections.

21. Well, that's good. The Cowboys can once again battle the Redskins for the division
while we laugh at the Eagles.

They may the worst franchise in the NFL, next to Oakland (and Oakland should be excluded, since no one thinks of them as a real team, anyway). They routinely trade away or cut star players, and refuse to build a team with any depth and talent. Reminds me of the fake Indians team in "Major League," where the owner was trying to lose so she could move the team. I wonder how the Eagles will enjoy playing in Tulsa.

McNabb has long deserved better, and while I don't think much of Little Dan's football ownership skills, at least Washington is a long way better than Phillie.

22. Well the Eagles have been winners for a long time
I'll grant that they have no Super Bowl win, which is frustrating. And I don't like how they have treated veteran players. But it seems like they might have a plan with the younger players.

25. Only because of the player they just traded for a second and third rounder.
Their plan is to cut big salaries and buy a better vacation home for the owner's girlfriend, I suspect.

Offensively they do have a lot of young talent; the defense still has holes to fill. If the trade doesn't work out, then Reid SHOULD go.

28. Ha! You should give them a chance.
Who knows, they might win despite ownership. Wasn't trying to demean the fans. I actually like the Eagles, when I'm not ribbing on them as a Cowboys' fan. Just every off season I watch their moves and think "That team deserves better owners."

they could have gone all out with McNabb. But it wasn't meant to be.

Have a good night. :hi:

30. I give you the Detroit Lions.
Only the Raiders have a worse record over the last two decades, I believe. The Lions haven't been a good team since Barry Sanders. The Eagles went to the NFC championship game four times in a row. Worst franchise in the NFL? I can think of a LOT of teams which wish they had as much success over the last decade.

Like mine, the Chicago Bears.

32. Most of that success came from one player.
And they just traded him for table scraps. That's what I'm talking about. With McNabb, they should have won a couple of Super Bowls, but they never spent to build a team around him.

Detroit has been bad, too. They never went anywhere with one of the most striking running back talents ever to play. They hang on to failed coaches and joke GMs way too long. I wouldn't argue that point. :)

33. McNabb better pray the 'Skins take Okung with that fourth pick
..because he's an old man who will have no O-line in front of him.

Two weeks ago. I think it was a given that they'd get Okung, but I've seen a couple of scnarios where Ndamukong Suh drops to 4, and if Suh's there, long run, they'd be fools not to take him.

34. LMAO at all the McNabb haters crying in Philly
Andy Reid pinning all his hopes on Kolb sounds like a recipe for destruction.

I perdict they each will be lucky to go 8-8, so this only makes the Giants/Cowboys path to the playoffs easier.
