Philly Eagles succumb to idiot fans, trade McNabb - to REDSKINS!!!
Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 11:20 PM by old mark
Season's first foot shooting party in Philly!
Kolb is now the Eagles QB, Vick still a backup.

McNabb traded for 2 draft picks, says he will be happy to go to 'Skins...I am sure he will be laughing at least 2 games every season.

Many Philly fans hated Donovan from day one, now they get their wish. All they have to do now is get rid of Andy Reid and we can look forward to years of 6 wins and much wondering what went wrong.

Eagles, it will be just like the old days again....

1. Hide your beagle, Vick is still an Eagle.
Now McNabb is a Deadskin with no offensive line.

4. He actually did win a game
He started against and defeating the Kansas City Chiefs. Not a big deal but he had back-to-back 300+ passing yard games, the first one was a loss against the Saints.

Hey--I'm not saying you're wrong. Just a slight correction. :hi:

Has to do with his annoying smile on sidelines after screw-ups, lack of ability at end of game (aided by Reid's incompetence, of course), and screwing up in clutch situations.

6. Eagles fans booed when McNabb was chosen over Ricky Williams in the draft.
There's been a loud contingent of McNabb haters ever since, though I have no idea if it's a majority in Phillie.

But this is about the lousy Eagles management and ownership. They drafted McNabb and only once ever gave him a decent receiver to throw to. That receiver, Terrel Owens, led them to a Super Bowl his first year there, and so the Eagles did what they could to run him off and split the team. They began twisting everything Owens said into some controversy so they could bench, then release Owens instead of paying him more. They want the Eagles to be good enough to fill the stadium, but not good enough to cost them a high salary.

Oh well. This Cowboys fan welcomes Washington back to the NFL, and grins as the Eagles vanish beneath the cash-colored waves.

7. Another slight correction
Edited on Sun Apr-04-10 11:51 PM by JonLP24
DeSean Jackson was a dual pro bowl selection as both a receiver and returner. He is also arguably the fastest receiver in the NFL and he was big reason McNabb had his best season since he did have Terrell Owens.

Edit-OK his numbers last season weren't even close to TO's career bests but he is still a very good receiver imo.

16. I saw Jerry Rice do that once against the Saints.
They didn't call it, and it was before instant replay, but Rice was trotting in for an easy touchdown, the officials were all trailing him so the couldn't really see his hands or the ball, and he just dropped the ball on about the three. He bobbled it a moment in front of him, then slapped it out of the endzone, and kept trotting like he had done nothing wrong, and the officials completely missed it.

If the greatest football player of all time can make that mistake at the prime of his game, I think a rookie can be forgiven for it. Once. :)

12. He's a great receiver. They got him in the second round for a steal, though.
I was a big DeSean Jackson promoter going into the draft. The Eagles got him in the second round in 2008, and haven't had to pay him big bucks yet. They may keep him when they do, only because they've cut so many high-priced players.

But they didn't go out and get him. They got lucky in the draft. And they traded McNabb the year after Jackson really hit the big time. Exact same pattern--keep a couple of stars so the fans will still come see you, but not so many that you have a legite chance of winning.

18. I agree
that it was a steal. I'm not 100% but I believe cannabis use in college hurt his stock. Not sure though because Percy Harvin didn't drop far if it all and he tested positive for cannabis at the combine. However there are teams that completely remove these players off of draft boards.

You may be on to something with this pattern. I think they let players establish themselves a long time with the franchise such as McNabb and Brian Dawkins so maybe Philadelphia will resign DJ for at least 3 more years when his contract is up. He may not be an Eagle forever though.

19. There were questions about his size and his concentration.
He's a tad short and light for an NFL player, but more than that, he had the reputation of zoning out on big plays, so a lot of scouts questioned his maturity. When he spiked the ball on the one yard line against the Cowboys instead of scoring a TD, a lot of people said "See? Told you!"

But he's fast, and he's got that quickness. Jerry Rice said he was the fastest receiver he'd ever seen out of college. And he's a smart receiver (when he's not spiking the ball on the one yard line). I really, really wanted the Cowboys or Saints to get him. :)

28. I didn't believe this, but I am really thinking it's true now - this was done by the Eagles
Bean Counters to save money, and to go back to their old system of running the team on the cheap to make a profit, rather than to win.

Your'boys may have another good season or 2 out of this....but watch out for the Redskins.

20. the vocal McNabb haters rule Philly sports talk
I grew up in Philadelphia and I remember the booing when he was drafted--it was organized by 610 WIP's morning crew, who thought Rickey (with what QB?) could take them to the promised land. And they stayed on Donovan, more or less, throughout his entire career. He might beat out Mike Schmidt as the most underappreciated athlete in Philadelphia sports history.

Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 07:52 AM by JonLP24
He threw for 3 TD's and over 350 yards. He did throw 3 INT's(1 was off of a hail mary) but what do they expect when you threw the ball 51 times against the #1 pass defense of that year that only allowed a very low 5.8 YPPA?

What was a poor performance was Andy Reid only handing it off 16 times. Those fans can never be happy I guess. That whole season McNabb threw for close to 4,000 yards and over 30 TDs.

McNabb is coming off his sixth Pro Bowl season, and has won more games and thrown for more yards and touchdowns than any quarterback in Eagles history. Oh, and by the way, he’s led the team to five NFC championship games and a Super Bowl.

Yet, the Philly fan says "wasn't working out"???

Look, I'm glad the Eagles have shot themselves in the foot. I'm a Saints/Chargers fan.

Not a lot of info out there but I believe he is currently on the trading block.

ESPN 980 is reporting Buffalo, Carolina, Oakland, and Jacksonville are interested in Mr. Campbell.

Ok Gene Smith the GM of Jacksonville says he isn't interested and is confident in McCown as the #2 QB.

Edited on Mon Apr-05-10 05:01 AM by old mark
I just read that Kolb already has more closeness with the newer guys-like Jackson-and that McNabb's "people" are mostly gone already.
I just don't see a lot of competence in Kolb and never have....I hope I am wrong, but I see a pretty dismal time ahead for the Eagles.
If they do well in the draft and trade Vick for anything more than a case of root beer, they may come out OK in 2 years or so...by which time McNabb will be retired or close to it.

But I will miss him-he is one hell of a player and a good man.

And I am afraid that Reid will as well go in another year or two.

26. It was either McNabb or Kolb
both are in final years of their contracts. Eagles thinking was that if they kept McNabb he'd need a contract extension since he'd be a FA next year and they may get nothing.

Eagles made a decision.

They got a ton of draft picks this year alot in the second/third round. I'd wait til draft day to see what happens. If St. Louis picks Bradford, I wouldn't be suprised to see them go after Mark Bulger.

I'll only be upset if they feel Vick is worthy of being their no.2.

39. 37th overall pick in the draft
and a 3rd or 4th round pick next year depending on how well Washington does with McNabb. This is what the Eagles got in return if you're wondering.

Also if you wonder why inside the division, it was McNabb's first choice out of them, Oakland, and Buffalo. Eagles wanted to make McNabb somewhat happy rather than "banish" him to Oakland or Buffalo.
