Photos from this year's Iditarod sled dog race |
|
This thread is not intended to stir up a heated discussion of the pros and cons of dogsled racing, but merely to invite any fans of the sport to check out my photos from the start of the race here: http://northernvisions.smugmug.com/Sports/Iditarod-XVIII-The-Beginning/11717464_vh6ED#826841474_fX4kF and the finish in Nome here: http://northernvisions.smugmug.com/Sports/Iditarod-XVIII-The-End/11719486_WK7V6#827011089_umjUc

2. Did you take those pictures? |
|
My sister was down there that day (when they started), and took a couple of pictures of Newton Marshall. I thought it was really cool the Jamaicans had an entrant there. He did finish, and had some former winners coaching him.

It was a really good race this year, no serious mishaps, and fairly cooperative weather. We had a great time out in Nome. I'll be working on a gallery of general Nome shots for my next project. I'll post a link when I get them up -- it's a really different sort of place.
About Newton, last year he was coached by Hans Gatt for the Yukon Quest, and Lance Mackey coached him this year for the Iditarod. He couldn't have asked for better teachers.

7. Newton was very popular. |
|
They were playing "One Love" by Bob Marley over the loud speaker as he was approaching the finish line on Front Street. Everybody was singing and swaying with the music. It was great! The guy has a knockout smile.
