Poll question: A question about not just meat, but food in general. |
|
I tend to like almost all of my cooked food cooked "well done."
For example: Most people prefer their broccoli still a little crunchy. I do not. I like my broccoli well done, if it is cooked. I can eat broccoli raw with dip, but if it is cooked, I want it cooked until it is soft, if possible.
Some people prefer their steaks "still mooing." Some medium rare. Some well done.
A recent get together with family reminded me that I'm the black sheep of the family. I like my food well done.
That made me wonder: Am I the only one left that likes their food well done?

It depends on which food, for me.
I like my beef medium rare; too done and it's not juicy or tender.
Broccoli, I like done, but not limp.
So it just depends...

4. It depends on the food |

As I am getting older I'm liking my food less and less cooked. Veggies on the lesser side of cooked, and things like green beans or asparagus are fine just raw. And steak, I used to want that cooked through but when the husband's not looking sometimes I'll snitch a piece of it raw before it hits the grill. I've been known to slice up some raw steak and stick it in my lunch where I can eat it in peace without him looking at me like I'm a freak.
Cake, bread, cookies, I almost always want to just eat the raw dough.

5. I like beef medium rare. |

But I have a friend who is a chef and he said some people prefer chicken to be pink in the middle. As long as it gets hot enough it is safe but has a horrible texture.

7. I tell people that although I am carnivorous, I prefer my meat to be cooked. |
|
I may be able to eat beef if it's just pink in the middle (not bleeding), but I eat pork, seafood and poultry only when cooked well done. I also prefer my veggies either raw or cooked until tender. And what is it with cooking shows lately? Half the time, they are serving beef or seafood totally uncooked. And I just can't wrap my head around rare pork. I heard too many sermons from grade school on up about the dangers of trichinosis.

I eat a lot of raw stuff, but I also love to caramelize the hell out of some things, and years of being a baker got me used to eating burnt food that was too dark to sell (but still edible). I actually got to the point that I got so used to dark cookies that I sort of prefer them over done.
