New Hampshire's sad excuse for a Democratic governor bungled his budget (again), so he's laying off more state employees, particularly those who work for the Department of Health and Human Services.
As some of you know, my wife is a mental health care provider at the state psychiatric hospital in Concord. Her unit is among those slated for closure, so her future is very much up in the air at the moment.
Any good vibes you can send this way are appreciated.
It just fries my bacon that this governor, who lives in an 8,000 square foot house, has a $200,000 per year bodyguard, and a squadron of press flacks on his office staff wags his finger at the front-line caregivers and lectures them about "sacrifice".
Oh, and he appeared at a McCain rally, dragged his feet on supporting Obama, and badmouthed health care reform. Yet he's a "good Democrat"? Please. Elitist twit is more like it.

NO ONE who works to help better other people's lives and mental well-being should have their life's work put on the line. It's unconscionable. And by a Democrat - that's shameful.
I'm hoping someone sees the light and let your wife continue to help those who need her help. She does an important service and should be respected for that.

She really loves this job. She began working in the field as a volunteer with a group called Delta Service Corps (it's now AmeriCorps Louisiana and AmeriCorps Arkansas)back in the early 1990s. The state gig is ideal since she gets to work with a quality staff and receive a decent wage and benefits. Since I'm self-employed, the health care coverage is a real godsend.
I'm hoping that her union fights like hell to protect the hospital staff. There are other state agencies that haven't been run through the fiscal SlapChop like this, and it's time for them to share the burden, even if they are John Lynch's political allies.

Good mental health care and good mental health care givers should be prized and protected. All the best to you and your wife.
