why do so many still put AM/FM radio in their used car ads?
I was looking over the used car ads in my local paper.
Daughter is getting ready to drive but thats another story.
It struck me how old fashioned it sounds to say,
I have AM and FM radio in my car.
And yet every third ad lists FM radio like its a very desirable feature.
How many 2005 Sentras are out there WITHOUT FM radio?

I'd gamble and guess not too many.

1. It means "No CD or tape player". It sounds better than "no CD".

2. It's like the motels
that boast of "color TV" and "air conditioning".

3. Or air conditioning. Down here if it doesn't say "No AC," it better have AC. Seriously, though
A lot of web-based ad services have a form you fill out, and you check everything your car has. AM/FM radio is one of the options, so most people aren't going to skip it. So it winds up looking dumb in the final format.

If your paper is just taking written ads and people are including that, well... Maybe you should move?

4. Some cars don't have ANY radio, because it's been taken out or broken.
But yeah, AM/FM is scraping the bottom of the barrel of features to include in the ad.

5. Beats a blank.
If it has nothing else at least you can listen to NPR if nothing else.

6. It forestalls one more stupid question.
If you DON'T mention it, that will be one of the first questions asked... so why not answer it, even if it's not a great answer?

I'll admit... I care more about the sound system features and quality than most of the rest of a car's features. Good sound + good AC + comfortable + reliable = good car in my book. The rest of the stuff is incidental.
