My beautiful pearl cockatiel died unexpectedly last night. |
|
All of a sudden she started panting and before we kmew it she was quietly gone. Birdie heaven is enjoying a lovely songstress today.
RIP. Scruffy; spread your lovely wings on lighter air.

My condolences to you and your family. I had a cockatiel long ago, and they become such favorite family members. Big characters in every way, and I'm sure that you'll miss her a lot. Bless her heart, and Rest in Peace, Scruffy.

10. We had that happen last year with our yellow pearl 'tiel Sylvester - |
|
Edited on Sat Apr-10-10 08:47 PM by haele
He and Chuckles, our white pearl female shared a medium sized parrot cage with a breeding box ('cause Chuckles laid eggs like crazy -poor Sylvester didn't know what to do other than sit on them) against the opposite wall from our computer desk in the dining room. I put some of their favorite fresh veggies and cheese in the treat cup, then went to the computer and started working. Half an hour later, I noticed it had been quiet there for a while, and turned around to see Chuckles at the "lookout" at the top of the cage, and Sylvester just laying at the bottom of the cage. Two weeks before, he had pulled out a feather preening himself and started panicking after bleeding a bit; we took him to a bird vet and he was declared "okay" after he was checked out and kept in an oxygenated chamber for a couple hours to settle him down and for observation. He seemed normal when he came home after that, but I guess it was just too much. Poor Sylvester, he loved Laz more than he loved Chuckles. Only about 5 years old, which was much too young - they're supposed to live for 15-20 years.
I'm sorry for your loss; Cocktails are smart and very sociable if they're properly handled and cared for.

14. Scruffy tended to the cranky side, but was quite a character and singer. |
|
Instead of her cheery chatter, there was silence this morning, very hard to deal with.

Our Ciela died suddenly, too, some years ago. ("Ciela" means a feminine version of "heavenly" in Italian. We heard it on our honeymoon, Easter Sunday in Siracusa. A father called after his daughter, and the word/name stayed with me.)
