I just got the video "The Blind Side". Is the movie any good?

5. I watched Monster's Ball recently while donating platelets

the movie itself was OK but Halle Berry's performance was dreadful - and she won the best actress Oscar for that :o

There are some details here and there that are not true but nearly all of it is.

Anyways I haven't seen it but was aware of the story well before the movie came out. I'm addicted to the NFL Draft so I was looking up players as they were drafted so that's how I came to know Oher's story and I say it's a good one. I look forward to seeing it myself.

The book was written by Michael Lewis who wrote about the financial meltdown in "The Big Short"

the player is now in the NFL-there is another guy with a similar story also in the NFL

Another aspect I am not sure they covered-Michael Oher (the player) saw his IQ shoot up something like 20-25 points simply by eating something close to a stable diet

13. It's good for what it is - it's a movie meant to please a mass audience

watching it only one time. It's not a great film - it's not a film that is so well made that you could watch it more than once. Like a lot of current films, it also can't resist playing it cute at times - i.e. blatantly going for a cheap laugh at the expense of dramatic integrity (there's one especially egregious example in one of Kathy Bates's scenes). All that said, Sandra Bullock is quite good in it, and I think you'll find it a pleasant couple of hours.

14. It's good if you don't think about it too much...

In my opinion, the most interesting character in the movie was the NCAA investigator. She clearly had story behind her passion and her mission that raised interesting moral questions, but that was totally ignored as they merely used her as a plot device. Exploring the concept of farming poor communities for athletic talent to essentially make money for the sports industry would have been great (especially in light of what goes on in places like DR http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=125580034), but that would have ruined the feel-good fairy tale story.

16. I feel like I know the entire movie just from the trailer.

Destitute black kid taken in by rich white family, they "save" him but really he is the one who saves them (all the while becoming a football star)! They need him more than he needs them! Awwwww ....

I thought it really good both story wise and acting wise.

I don't know how much was left out, puffed up, or what, but the story of Michael Oher is in and of itself pretty inspiring.

22. The role Sandra Bullock plays is perfect for her.

Sassy Southern lady with heart of gold. And she carries.
it's a feel-good movie that carefully, very gently tells us about the really hard world out there, but not so you'll squirm in your seat. It is a true story, and not enough has been said, I think, about the wonderful job the young actor who plays Oher does. He has almost no dialogue, and he has to speak to us with his face. And, wow, does he ever! I hope he gets a lot of work in the future. I don't want to sound too cynical, I'm glad this movie got made...but my mind keeps turning back to the guys in the neighborhood playing so tough who will never get the chance Oher did. They won't even get ordinary opportunities for small triumphs. (Like a steady job and a safe neighborhood for their families.) Not all of us can play Offensive Tackle, or whatever it is that Oher is perfectly designed for.
I give the movie credit for bringing my attention to his old neighborhood, but now they should make a whole movie about the guys left back home.
