Anybody going to Coachella next week?
Muse, Bad Lieutenant, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Specials, Mutemath, Passion Pit, Yo La Tengo, Thom Yorke,Phoenix, Shooter Jennings, PIL, MGMT, Hot Chip, Gil Scott Heron, Gary Numan, Faith No More, Them Crooked Vultures....just a few of the performers. Would love to see this!

I'll have to settle for Bad Lieutenant (Zombie New Order) when they hit New York a few days later ;)

1. I would go JUST to see...
.
...Gil Scott-Heron -- GENIUS proto-rapper, recognized by
many successful rappers well-educated in the history of
their genre as "The Grandfather of Rap".
.
I had read that he just put out his first release in almost a
decade, and I was a little disappointed in the only cut that
I've heard... but this is one blues poet extraordinaire.
.
My absolute FAVORITE of his is less than 3 minutes long and
not one of his better-known pieces, but one of his most
powerful, IMNEVERHO. It's about a young man in
Houston(?) who was beaten to death by police.
.
Quiet, truly beautiful rich tapestry of music as a background
and ugly ugly ugly description of truly gross injustice in the
fore.
.
NSFW -- more than a few "motherfuckers" and liberal use of
the N-word eventually -- but not in the way that we have become
accustomed to in way too much of contemporary rap.
.
"A Poem for Jose Campos Torres"
.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pYt2K6vacv0
.
Following this link, read about the insiration for this poem
in "About this series" -- maybe a third of the way down in the
center of the webpage.
.

2. I am going. Something to do,
Start this summer in the place I ended last summer, Indio at the Polo Fields. Halloween with Phish and then Coachella! Some changes were made this year too about camping and such. So it will be a much easier festival to go to without dealing with leaving and hoteling.

Most of the bands I have never heard so it will be interesting. gonna go down, do Mono Lake and Joshua tree pre fest on the way from NORCAL..

Looking forward to GS Heron and Echo and the Bunnymen.

Then it's off to the big show (YAH FUCKING HOOOOO!!!!!) The New Orleans Jazz And Heritage Festival. Summer kicks off huge this week.
