5. Wonderful...thank you for this thread and the links to this music |
Living in New Mexico, I of course have access to a lot of Native American music and culture but don't avail myself of these opportunities as much as I could. I have attended the Gathering Of Nations, and on occasion gone to see Native American musical performers; both traditional as well as "new age" type. And of course, many local Native American musicians, both from the nations such as the Dine ( AKA Navajo),as well as the Pueblos, are involved in rock, country, and blues as well.In fact the first blues show on local radio ( that I'm aware of) was on KIPC ( Indian Pueblo Council) and the longtime co-host of KUNM's Wednesday night blues show was the late Dave Denny, a Native American who had an absolutely encyclopedic knowledge of blues. But the more traditional music is alive and well, and these links have been a nice reminder of that.

7. Are you familiar with Pamyua from Alaska? |
They have a few YouTubes up, but you can get a better feel for their music by listening to samples on iTunes.

12. Great--I have seen these guys in person; in fact was trying to remember their name |
in my post above when mentioning Native American groups I've seen, and had a brain fart and couldn't for the life of me come up with Brule. Also have a CD that Nicole, the flute player, did...
