Anyone see "The Mist?" (Possible Spoilers) |
|
I'm watching it right now and I walked into the kitchen just as the soldier explained what he knew about Project Arrowhead and he was just finishing explaining when I came back in (urgh). What was Project Arrowhead or at least as much as he explained?
The movie sucks, but I still need to know.

1. Use of supernatural powers for war and greed, summoning of Mars fear and terror |

Thats my view on it, but in the movie they just talk about some experiment.
Some other shows that speak of the same thing.
The veil from Dragon Age video game. Farscape wormhole tech, Wormhole tech can only make war. Lord of the Rings, the ability to see the invisible world through the Rings of Power. A couple Outer Limits episodes. Freddy Dream Warriors film. Event Horizon. Thirteenth Warrior. (On a side note, I think that show is a modification of an old Templar history story)
I only post this to show there are many people that think on those things and they are in much of popular culture.
The concept of the myst, is usally about the supernatural world, although I think what happened in that movie was a comment on what they were trying to do. I honestly believe there is plenty of supernatural justice and love also.
And many armies in the world do for defense not worse motives.

2. It was very derivative, not surprising for Steven King. |

Which was why I wasn't ever going to pay money to see it, although I am a big fan of Andre Braugher and Marcia Gay Harden. The best and only redeeming part of the movie was the ending and I figured it was going to end that way, anyway, instead of just pulling a "The Birds." The scene with the giant walking creature was may favorite part.
Not all that impressed with it. There were episodes of the "The X-Files" more original and compelling. And, obviously, it owes a lot to "The Fog," although it reminded me of "The Birds," more, or "The Manitou."
I just thought I heard the soldier say something about "opening a door," and was wondering what he said.

3. I think the ending that David picked in that version of that story is totally wrong. |
|
Although it could be seen as a cautionary part of the story, and what not to do, it does not seem to fit at all, it also was not the ending in the book.

4. I was aware of that, but NOT aware of how the book ended. |

How did the book end?
The ending of the film seemed real familiar to me, too. I think it has been done before in some movie or TV show, if not several.
EDIT: I guess they just keep going on through the mist.

5. I think they were in the car and a message of hope came over the radio. |
|
So it did not have an ending that most films like to have. Sort of left off with the concept of choice to believe that things are not as bad as they seem.

8. Similar to "The Birds." . |

I don't know how Daphne de Maurier's original short story ended, but that's how the Hitchcock film ends, and I know it was changed from the short story.
I just think King is so overrated. I like the guy just fine as a person, but so derivative.

11. Oh, here's what I was looking for: |
|
Look, look Okay, okay I heard stuff Stuff?
Yes, we all heard stuff
Like how they, um how they thought that there were other dimensions,
you know, other... other worlds all around us,
and how they wanted to try and make, um, a window...
you know, so they could look through and see what's on the other side
Well, maybe your window turned out to be a door Didn't it?
Not mine! Those scientists'! Oh, the scientists! Yes, the scientists!
They must have ripped a hole open by accident This other world came spilling through to ours That's what Donaldson was saying to me right before he killed himself

9. The ending in the book was very "open ended" |
|
Edited on Tue Apr-20-10 02:51 AM by AllenVanAllen
but it doesn't look good for them.
The Mist movie's ending was supposed to have a "Night of the Living Dead" feel to it. OH MY GOD! THE REDNECK KILLED BEN!
There's even a DVD cut of The Mist presented in B&W.

12. Yeah, I can see that now that you mention. More derivativeness. |
|
How the sounds of the clean-up continue into the credits. It's a thin line between homage and rip-off.

13. yea it had not the best feel. |

You don't win that battle with fire and guns.
Think of a few other endings.
How about a troop of hippies singing and dancing? That was how it was done in the older war in the Sword of Truth Series.
How about people not with the fear and hysteria like the people in that store?
I think the military with flame throwers was a bit of a right wing thing also, as are many zombie movies. shrug, depends how you choose to see it.

7. The ended the way I was pretty much expecting, and |
|
again, it was not that original. It's been done before where someone killed everyone else. I just can't remember where I've seen it. Similar to the ending of some Twilight Zone episodes. I will agree that the ending was the best part of the movie. Most of the move was stuff that had been done before with the typical stereotypes and cliche dialogue and interaction.
