Help DU Strange thing just happened when I used google
Edited on Wed Apr-21-10 11:56 AM by Blue Diadem
I was doing a search and when I clicked on a link(wikipedia) a download began. Since I use firefox I immediately canceled the download. I then clicked on the 2nd page of the search and another download began. I cleared the download box before it could complete on each occasion but it seems there are 6 icons in my most recent folder and in the download folder. I've never seen that happen before. Darn it, did I download a virus?

I use Avast and Malwarebytes. Scans come up ok.

The icon labels in the download folder are search, search 2 etc.

1. I had this problem last week.

My google searches were being redirected. But Avast, Malwarebytes, Ad Aware, Symastec, nothing was picking it up.

Turns out it was a nasty virus called Help Assistant. I ended up going to this website:

http://www.techspot.com/vb/menu28.html

And then having to go through a long litany of steps and sending it into the forum, and eventually they directed me how to get rid of the bloody thing. Not fun, but it seems to be gone now.

Oh, and on edit: DU Strange (now known to most people as Dr. Strange) will do little for you, other than to mock you and put you in his next Tale of WTFery. :P

3. I use Malwarebytes and Superantispyware, just to be safe.
Superantispyware has a free version.
