Claritin rocks! I'm new at this allergy thing as...

I get older and get sensitive to these things, so I thought it was just another spring cold.

Hay fever, dammit, and what a pain in the ass that is-- I sympathize with those of you who had to deal with it all your lives.

Anyway, found some cheap generic Claritin at Rite-Aid and that one little pill knocked out almost all the symptoms for 24 hours. Holy shit! Wish I thought of that when this started a week ago.

ten times with the sneezing and coughing.

The "second generation" antihistimines, Claritin and Zyrcal, don't have the drowsiness problem the older ones did. Claritin-D, with a decongestant added, might.

2. yeah it works good for me too

didn't work for husband but a pharmacist said to use the generic zyrtec as it was stronger and it seems to do the trick for him

I've had allergies since about the 5th grade and have tried almost every kind out there, the claritin knockoff works great, no drowsy. I do use nasalchrom too, for a few weeks when things peak. I have fall allergies - mostly grasses and chenopods.

4. I'm glad Claritan works for you.

It gave me back pain, so I rely on chlorpheniramine maleate and diphenhydramine hydrochloride, which are pretty cheap and work well.

I experienced chronic runny nose for thirty years, before I started taking antihistamines. The money I save on tissues now pays for the medications.

Which here in Austin means year round. Cedar pollen, ragweed don't bother me at all. When the mold count exceeds 1000 I can tell right away-my eyes itch and I sneeze like a maniac, drainage down the back of my throat, etc.
The generic Loratidine(Claritin) at the local H.E.B. is $15 for a bottle of 100 and makes it go away within 20 minutes and lasts all day.

However did suffer a side-effect last Friday...

Had the most massive nose-bleed of my life... literally gushing blood to the point of almost passing out.

It stopped as I was about to head out the door to the ER.


Here it is the horrific neem trees that are killing me. I would give my eyeteeth to be back in the minor allergies I suffered in FL.

11. My therapist recommended Claritin to me, too...

I've been sneezing and my eyes have been running so much that people ask me if I'm crying. In the store, there were so many types that I was looking for so long that the pharmacist asked if he could help me. He told me that the generic kind is what he takes, too. I got the 24-hour pills, but then a friend told me that the 12-hour ones work the best. I have, however, discovered that I really do have a bad cold. :-(

I have a friend who is an allergy/asthma specialist and he told me the Costco Claritin pays for the Costco membership in savings. I believe him!!!

I use plain Claritin and add my own Sudafed on an as need basis, more control. And I get the Sudafed that you have to sign for with the pharmacist (Costco does not carry but Walgreen, CVS and others have excellent house brands). There are times when I only need the antihistamine and times when I only need the decongestant and times when I need both. The piggy backed stuff usually has more decongestant than I need at one time.

Oh and get a Neti Pot

I remember in the 80s and 90s the only non-drowsy antihistamine was prescription Seldane. The problem with that was that one had be absolutely free of circulatory problems if taking it, because it could cause some cardiac problems otherwise.
