I also really enjoyed the recent stand-up specials from Dave Attell and Robin Williams.

One day I accidentally used my car key on my house. It started up. So I took it for a drive. I drove onto a freeway on ramp, parked it and told people to get the hell off my driveway.

Did you ever see Hicks in Texas? I have some friends( and some were just acquaintances) that used to kind of split their time between here and Lubbock ( but Austin and Dallas too) from about the mid '70's to mid '80's called The Planets. Rock band all the way; really exceptional players. Their drummer ended up with Joe Ely for years, (but I don't know if that's a different world than you hang with there.) Hicks used to come to their gigs and do his thing during their breaks. My friend Bill ( guitar tech, roadie, stagehand etc...) remembers how he prided himself on being a really funny guy ( he is) but no matter how hard he tried , he could never get Hicks to laugh when they'd go out partying after the gig. Anyway, it's late and I'm as usual, rambling, but just wondering if you ever saw Hicks in Texas?

I only got hip to him about a year or so before he died, so I never got to see him do his thing live.
I'd never heard of The Planets. I wasn't plugged into the rock scene here during that time. My time was split between playing in hotel cover bands (arrrgh) and doing jazz and fusion gigs.

I've seen Janeane Garofalo (had to look up the spelling :-)) she's pretty funny too.
I love stand up comedy.
Edited to add: Whoopie is good too.
I like Ellen also.

10. In 1000 years, no one will understand the word "comedian". Carlin will be known a great philosopher. |
|
Because he was. "Tell your 'Captain' that Air Marshall Carlin says GO FUCK HISSELF!!"
I like Chris and Wanda- both are very good at rubbing our noses in TRUTH.
My favorite: Patton. Carlin's throne is his for the taking, should he ever want it. He's blasphemously funny.
Also, I wanna mention the greatest SHOWMAN of our age: Kat Williams. No one works a crowd like Kat. He walks on stage, and 60 seconds later he's got 30 thousand people HYPNOTIZED.

33. Hard to say. I don't know if there's any stand up comedian that I actually love. |
|
I've enjoyed Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin James, Ellen Degeneres, a few others. My wife and I really like Lavell Crawford (who was on Last Comic Standing) and saw him live. But no one in particular stands out for me.
Never liked Carlin. I appreciate him for being something of a pioneer of stand up comedy, but never liked his style or his subject matter. (Although I did enjoy him on Bill and Ted.)
