14. Here's a remarkable jazz video
It's a good performance of a jazz standard, and it explains piano technique at the same time.

You can also dance to it.

10. Ever since I saw the movie "Amadeus"
whenever I think of Mozart, I see F. Murray Abraham as Salieri helping Mozart write the Requiem Mass in D Minor. (In fact, Salieri had nothing to do with the Requiem.)

In the movie, Mozart's body is brought to a pauper's grave as the Requiem is played. How poignant is that?

25. I just noticed your sig line.
It reminds me of a movie I saw a long time ago.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047834/

One of the rules was: "All animals are equal, but some are more equal than others."

IIRC your namesake was last seen being chased by some dogs.

The little kiddies in the audience didn't like that scene, nor the one where Boxer was being carted off to the glue factory.

28. Ah, yes....4 legs good, 2 legs bad....
One of my favorite books and why I chose the name:

These words from Chapter V describe Napoleon’s violent expulsion of Snowball from Animal Farm, which parallels the falling-out between Joseph Stalin and Leon Trotsky. Napoleon, who is clearly losing the contest for the hearts and minds of the lower animals to his rival Snowball, turns to his private police force of dogs to enforce his supremacy. As Stalin did, Napoleon prefers to work behind the scenes to build his power by secrecy and deception, while Snowball, as Trotsky did, devotes himself to winning popular support through his ideas and his eloquence. Napoleon’s use of the attack dogs in this passage provides a blatant example of his differences with Snowball and points beyond the story to criticize real leaders for their use of such authoritarian tactics.

That's what General Douglas MacArthur said.

He had been a bad boy.

He squawked for a while, and then he faded away.

33. going thru my latest acquisitions... current album: T.E.L.E.P.A.T.H.Y
here's just an album teaser which is short enough to get a sense of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-WZi0fzOZw&feature=related

i'd say synth pop, but there's too much punk in it to really be pop. i'm gonna say S. Korea is birthing a new synth/trance punk genre i haven't heard before. it's like if DEVO or POLYSICS decided to push themselves into danceable punk with punishing trance-like loops -- pretty interesting development.

anyway, i will vouch for Ruby Salon label; some great music on it.

Hole - Nobody's Daughter (a mixed bag IMO. Courtney's voice has definitely faded. But she can still bring it on songs like "Nobody's Daughter," "Skinny Little Bitch," and "Loser Dust." My problem is that the songs in the middle seem like weaker versions of Celebrity Skin. Not bad, but they don't stand out. Then, "How Dirty Girls Get Clean" is a pale imitation of "Loser Dust." The last song, "Never Go Hungry," is Courtney doing a country sound - it just doesn't fit her). You can hear the whole album legally and early at Facebook.

However, I absolutely loved the Hold Steady's new album Heaven Is Whenever and samples/couple full songs from the New Pornographers' Together!

Actually, the band I play with. Been going through live gig recordings all day trying to find stuff to compile a new booking demo for us.

This is us in action at a benefit for a fellow musician who was in a car accident a while back.
