The ugliest multi-million dollar property I have ever seen
This real estate listing in NYC has GOT to be the ugliest place I have ever seen. And for the price, that means it's like a million dollars per room! If you can't see why I think it's so ugly, you are living in the wrong century.

3. My dear hyphenate!
Actually, it's not ugly. You are looking at the furnishings, I suspect, and those are ugly.

The apartment or whatever it is is lovely. Nicely proportioned spaces, from what I can see.

The kitchen is nice, but I want my ovens in the wall, not below.

I really love the garden! Very pretty...

I would also have expected that the place would have an elevator, and I don't see any mention of that...

Three stories is just too much without an elevator...

And I'll have you know that I am not living in the wrong century!:P

Edited on Mon Apr-26-10 12:16 AM by Gormy Cuss
I'm a bit surprised that it has one. Three stories is not usually high enough for an elevator in New York, but this is an Upper East Side, 15.5 million dollar address.

:hi:

eta: it's actually on five levels counting the garden level and basement. The elevator is the large X on the floor plans.

Any room that has a head on its wall is pretty ugly to me. And there are two animal skulls on the hearth as well--though I won't venture to say what kind of an animal they are from.

This listing is much more to my liking. I've gotten quite fond of penthouses, as they're usually light, airy and modern. And you don't have anyone over you to make noise. ;)

http://www.sothebyshomes.com/nyc/sales/0016614#

It's 1/2 million less than the other one!

Strangely enough, my favorite listing in London bears a very striking similarity to this one, even to the general setup of the rooms. I guess I like a lot of glass!

Those leave when the place is sold. Also, the 3 story place has nobody overhead. All 3 stories belong to the same place...

The penthouse is lovely!

The top picture is from NYC, and the second pic is from London. I might consider giving you the NYC penthouse, but you can't have my London flat!

19. Me as well!
After seeing the pic I posted of the living room with hotel lobby furnishings, seeing that animal head really unnerved me. And then the picture of what looks to be a child's room, complete with a zebra rug on the floor....

Peggy is right, though--it's mostly the furnishings that make it ugly. But I don't care for the amount of light not being there, and those very heavy, very old-fashioned drapes aren't helping either.

39. I think that's what bothered me, too, the darkness of the rooms.
It's kind of suffocating without natural light. That might make all the difference in the mood of the rooms. But the animal heads/skins are the most off putting. And what's up with those skeletal hands in front of the bookshelves? x(

29. lol!
I just love primary colors, and other bright colors. I remember watching all the episodes from Trading Spaces and Changing Rooms here the designers kept saying over and over again not to be afraid of colors. Where I'm currently living, I have the opportunity to redecorate, and color is definitly on the agenda--a dark emerald green for the bedroom, a dark rusty color for the library, a light lemon or daffodil yellow in the kitchen, and white, with bold geometric shapes for the front room. So I suppose it won't all be someone else's cup of tea, but my vision will be definitely unique!

45. Really, they have an actual name for it?
Until lately, I never really got into it, except for the occasional glance at a real property I was considering, once upon a time when I actually had money. But then I started out working on a story, and had to visualize the places it was taking place. Now, I find it's just so much fun to imagine what it is like to live in a place like that. I get to plan out my story, and also enjoy the eye candy.

I have been a subscriber to Architectural Digest for centuries, though!

Wow. I thought I was only one of a few people who liked looking at the pictures! At least I know no one was harmed in the making of the pictures! ;)
