I came of age in the Nixon era and just got carded in the convenience store.
I showed em my license and said I'm pretty sure I look over eighteen

One of the clerks -- I'm prolly old enough to be her grandpa -- Oh, we can't tell

I told her I didn't believe her and warned her I might start flirting with her if she didn't watch it

Neither she nor other pretty young woman behind the counter seemed very concerned by the threat

What's wrong with youth today?

1. Can't blame store owners for telling their help(those that can chew gum...
and walk at the same time)to 'card everybody' have probably been caught for missing a few and fined. Easier to card everyone and then the authorities are happy.

4. The clerks themselves get cited and fined in this fine state.
and it counts a strike against the establishments liquor/beverage (whatever the hell it is) license.

So yeah, they card early and often.

2. I'm 57 and always get carded in bars and restaurants.
I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fact that I tell the waitstaff and bartenders that I give much bigger tips if they card me.

3. to be fair some employers order their employees to card everyone
i suppose it's safer to just tell people to card everyone than to allow employees to use their own common sense.

probably just following orders, you know.

5. I used to get carted when buying cigarettes well into my 30s. The law in Nova Scotia said that if
you looked like you could be 30 then they had to id you.
