Oh God help me there is a lizard killing going on in my house as I write |
|
this. I know that is what cat's do. I know he is going to give the lizard to me as a present, (although he seems to be having a lot o fun getting my present
I don't know where it is at right now. I hope he dies peacefully under a couch so when I see him he'll be all shriveled up and dry.
Now the cat just ran out the dog door. Is he looking for more?

1. If it is a skink don't leave it lying around! |
|
I know from experience that dead skinks stink to high heaven if left inside. And that smell does NOT help you locate the carcass.

2. I doubt it since this is a regular occurance every summer. And even n winter |
|
These little lizards are all over the place. I can't walk around my gardens in the back without seeing one. But they don't smell.

3. Probably anoles - we get up here in Tallahassee, too |
|
And they just desiccate and don't stink. Those and frogs are not a big problem, though I try to get them out without the cat seeing me do it. He gets mad and takes it out on my ankles.
Once while we were on vacation the woman caring for the cats let a skink into the house and of course the cats killed it. Then when she found the carcass, she just threw it in the trash inside. We got home and the house had the most foul odor. Even though it was forty degrees outside, we had to open all the windows. It took an hour or more until we could locate the carcass, since it was buried under some other stuff. It was days before I did not have a hint of rotted skink in the back of my throat. It is not as bad as skunk, but it is in the running.

7. Skinks can make them sick - foam at the mouth and throw up |
|
But usually the cats don't eat them, just torture and mutilate them.
