41. The lyrics are sad and funny, great melody.
Jennifer dates a man in a 60s cover band
He's the Ess-dog, or Sean if you wish
She's 18, he's 31
She's a rich girl, he's the son
Of a Coca-Cola middle man

Kiss when they listen
To "Brothers in Arms"
And if there's something wrong with this
They don't see the harm
In joining their forces and singing along

See those rings on her toes check that frisbee in his Volvo
It's a Volvo with ancient plates
They've got a dog she named Trey
A retriever with a frayed bandana around his neck

Trey has a window into their relationship
The baby talk voices
And the post class-a nasal drip
But it all seems to function
At least in her dog's mind

Let me out of here
Let me out of here
You got to let me out of here
You got to let me out of here
Let me out of here
Out of here
Out of here, out of here
Let me out of here I'll hit the ground running

Jennifer left for school up in boulder
And the Ess-dog came to visit when he could
But the strain was too much
They could not make up for distance
And the distance between their years

Neither one listens
To "Brothers in Arms"
The Ess-dog waits tables
And he sold his guitar
Jenny pledged kappa and she started pre-law
And off came those awful toe rings
Off came those awful toe rings

:toast:

37. "Beep Beep" by the Playmates.....

BEEP BEEP

While riding in my Cadillac,
What to my surprise.
A little Nash Rambler was following me -
About one third my size.
The guy must've wanted to pass me up
As he kept on tooting his horn. Beep! Beep!
I'll show him that a Cadillac
Is not a car to scorn.
Beep beep. Beep! Beep! Beep beep. Beep! Beep!
His horn went beep beep beep. Beep! Beep!

Hilarious song and worth listening to for a laugh. Classic. Thanks.

43. Bitchin' Camaro
By the Dead Milkmen:

BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
I ran over my neighbors
BITCHIN CAMARAO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Now it's in all the papers.
My folks bought me a BITCHIN CAMARO with no insurance to match;
So if you happen to run me down, please don't leave a scratch.
I ran over some old lady one night at the county fair;
And I didn't get arrested, because my dad's the mayor.
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Doughnuts on your lawn
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Tony Orlando and Dawn
When I drive past the kids, they all spit and cuss,
Because I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO and they have to ride the bus.
So you'd better get out of my way, when I run through your yard;
Because I've got a BITCHIN CAMARO;
And an Exxon credit card.
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
Hey, man where ya headed?
BITCHIN CAMARO, BITCHIN CAMARO
I drive on unleaded.

Songs that made the hit parade.
Guys like us we had it made,

And you knew who you were then,
Girls were girls and men were men,
Mister we could use a man
Like Herbert Hoover again.

Didn't need no welfare state,
Everybody pulled his weight.
Gee our old LaSalle ran great.

I just watched it without seeing your link. I've got the album version and I've never seen him live. So I thought I'd check out a live version and it was amazing.

I apologize for not seeing your post.

It might be the finest, most "American" song ever written. I've seen grown men stand in a circle singing the words to it as it played on the stereo - that just doesn't happen with men, ever. Although, I admit, beer was involved.

I have that entire concert that I posted the version of Racing... from on a bootleg 3 record set ( i.e. vinyl). I couldn't begin to estimate how many times I've listened to it...About a year ago, I discovered this "Bruchee" guy on you tube had the whole show on film, so after 30 years years of listening to this concert, I finally got to see it. An incredible show ... If you didn't watch this or any other of the stuff from that show, I can't recommend it enough. Even by E Street Band standards, they were really "on" that night.Probably playing a small theater in New Jersey had something to do with it. I hope you get to see them before they finally get too old ( and that's gotta be coming fairly soon, although Bruce says they aren't done yet). I first saw them in 1975, and most recently a year ago (in Denver... Bruce has played here in Albuquerque solo, but to my knowledge, the E Street Band has never played a show in New Mexico so always have to go to Denver or Phoenix). I also saw them in Chicago just a couple of weeks before that N.J. show. Anyway, I was stunned at how good they still are, and Racing in the Street may have been THE highlight of last year's Denver show ( with Johnny 99, Youngstown and American Land all close runners up). My friend who had never seen them ,despite being a fan ( and an incredibly accomplished blues and jazz singer herself) just kept repeating "I'm blown away, I'm just fuckin' blown away " all the way back to the hotel afterward. And during Racing in the Street, the look on her face was one of pretty much just plain awe.And this is a woman who ,as I said, is an accomplished , well-known ( locally anyway) singer who has seen a hell of a lot of great artists and performances. So.....didn't mean to "call you out" or whatever by noting I'd just posted it ( the "you're forgiven" was just supposed to be funny), but wanted you to notice my post so you could see the video. :toast:

P.S. as an allegedly grown man,who used to put away his share ,and then some, of beer.... yes , enough of it will make us do all sorts of weird shit, including apparently, standing in a circle singing along with Bruce...
P.S. # 2: I always thought Glory Days was somewhat of a lightweight in the greater Springsteen pantheon of songs , but he ended the Denver show with it, and it is a good, fun little party song to end a show with...someone posted it on you tube so here's Bruce in Denver, April of last year:

68. Love Shack!

I got me a car, it's as big as a whale
and we're headin' on down
To the Love Shack
I got me a Chrysler, it seats about 20
So hurry up and bring your jukebox money

69. Frank Zappa - Joe's Garage
It wasn't very large,
There was just enough room to cram the drums
In the corner over by the Dodge,
It was a '54 with a mashed-up door

71. The Way We Lived Then, by Harvey Andrews
(1994, but as relevant today)

THE WAY WE LIVED THEN

Caviar on the table, Champagne in the glass
We laughed and we jeered at the poor working class
We drank to their ruin, we drank to their shame
We pissed on their problems, said they were to blame
Oh the way we lived then, the way we lived then,
The way we lived then.

Jason wore braces and slicked his hair down
Ben had the number of each deb in town
I was a member of every new club
And I used my gold card to pay every sub
For the way we lived then, the way we lived then,
The way we lived then.

chorus

Oh, the way we lived then,
Selling Deutschmark or Yen,
Never thinking of where did it come from
How long would it last us, or when
Would we all have to pay for this mad holiday
For the Porsche and the Rolls
That were our only goals
Me and Jason and Ben,
Oh, the way we lived then.

Jason met Sarah, a girl in P.R.
They had a white wedding all paid for by Pa
Borrowed a fortune to buy their first pad
It was two hundred K, but then prices were mad.
The way we lived then, the way we lived then,
The way we lived then.

Jason said, three years, we'll sell and move on
Then suddenly, terribly, Maggie was gone
Ben said don't worry she's schooled them all well
So we drank to the sending of Labour to hell
Oh, the way we lived then, the way we lived then,
The way we lived then.
CHORUS

Sarah got pregnant, then Jason got fired
Ben took a pay cut and I felt too tired
Burnt out at thirty and sacked on the day
The repo man took my red Roller away
Oh the way we lived then, the way we lived then,
The way we lived then.

CHORUS

Now there's bread on the table and beer in the glass
It's merely a set back and bad times will pass
Monopoly money means always pass go
And we'll surely pass you if you're going too slow
And we'll live it again, the way we lived then,
The way we lived then.

Yes, we'll live it again, selling Euro or Yen
Only this time we'll know where it comes from
We'll know how to keep it, and then
We'll make someone else pay for our mad holiday
For the Porsche and the Rolls that are our only goals
Me and Jason and Ben,
We'll live it again,
The way we lived then,
We'll live it again.

72. "Mercury Blues"
Numerous artists. But I'll say Steve Miller Band since they are likely the band most white suburban people have heard of. But the best version is by Roy Rogers and Norton Buffalo. No not the singing cowboy, but the fabulous slide guitar player.

73. Another one
"Big Black Cadillac Blues" by the one and only Sam "Lightnin" Hopkins. There are many songs about Cadillac's by some of the greatest artists this planet has ever produced because it was a status symbol within the African-American Blues community. I love Da Blues.

Was it mainly a commercial jingle? My older brother had the 45.
